FNB slow to invest... quick to sell!

Why is it, in the 21st century, banks want to help you spend money rather than help you make money? I spent the last hour and a half on the phone trying to set up an investment account with FNB - my call was dropped twice and I was transferred to a department that apparently does not answer their phones. All I want to do is save/invest my money, why does FNB make it so difficult? But they very quick to sell me new nonsensical products, that I don't need.
