FNB Short Term Insurance
FNB has followed up with me and confirmed I must log a dispute (which will take 45 working days), but hopefully my review will deter someone to use FNB Short Term insurance. I was informed that I should have obtained quotes before I signed the settlement (as if I am an expert in fixing roofs). I was also informed - if anything happens to my roof in the next 45 days --- they will NOT cover any damage.
1) The assessor that came to our house noted that there was no maintenance done, therefore FNB will not send a contractor to fix the roof. I will agree that the maintenance on the patio roof has not been done, although there is not really maintenance that one can do on the polycarbonate sheeting. The roof of our house has been sealed & painted last year and is in mint condition. The ceiling inside our living room is worn, but this is due to the house not having an entrance hole into the ceiling for that part of the roof (as the house actually contains a fire wall) - this was mentioned to the assessor. Yet, an amount of R29,852.45 was approved (on which I might be paying SARS an amount).
2) The lady that assisted me requested me to sign the document - confirming the payment. I did make a note of the above point on this document. She confirmed that no attachment was sent (Friday, 23 January), whereafter I resent the email (copying my work address email to ensure that the attachment was sent). When I followed up the following week Friday (30 January) - the consultant confirmed the following : Kindly note that the mailbox delete all emails that came after 16:30 Sunday therefore we did not get the signed form as we are not working weekends. On this point I noted that I will resend the document, but as emergencies dont only happen during the week - this is an odd practice.
3) We then started to obtain quotes for the roof, the patio roof and the ceiling. I dont know if you are aware - but the contractors charge a call-out fee to do the quotes (which is not covered in your fee) Please find attached the quotes that we obtained. * Patio Roof Sheeting - R30,000.00 (excl VAT) * Roof & Ceiling - R47,370.00 (excl VAT) As you can see - I dont know what part of the roof you wanted me to fix. When I accepted the payment of R29,852.45 - I was under the impression that FNB are in touch with the prices, therefore you will not underpay me (as my insurance are paid up to date). Taking in consideration that it was noted (in the discussion) that should we not fix the roof correctly - future claims might be declined.
This is the second time we have claimed from FNB Short Term insurance. The first time was for a geyser, a replacement geyser was supp**** - but the old geyser was not removed. I dont know what will happen if our geyser breaks again. We also had issues with the geyser leaking afterwards, where we had to cover the cost of the plumber.
I have now sent my escalation of my complaint through to the 2 individual people as advised (strangely enough, no panel, no group email)- so, if the initial person made a mistake (when they listen to the calls) - why will they admit that it was their mistake. I will now have to wait for 45 working days before I can follow-up (wishing and hoping that my emails are not deleted after working hours).
The delay in my escalation was that the consultant that provided the feedback confirmed that we must send photos of the roof - proving to FNB that it was indeed painted and in a good condition. With the recent rain spells in Gauteng, we couldn't take the photos.
I have also submitted the invoice from Builders warehouse & the proof of payment to the contractor.
Let's see if FNB will answer this time ..... BUT, in the meantime ..... for anyone in the market for Short term Insurance ... DONT be fooled by empty promises from FNB.
