FNB Short Term / Car Insurance = HORRIBLE

Where do I even begin?

About a month and a half ago I was in a car accident. A third party jumped a red light and smashed into me rendering my car undriveable . The Roadside Assistance was insanely fast. Towed my car away as per my Insurance (with FNB)

I followed all protocol and filed the Accident Report at the closest SAPS within 2 hours. The next day (Monday) I contacted FNB insurance to file my claim and I was told my car was to be assessed. This happened during the festive period so I understood workshops closed , etc etc.

Now it gets interesting, the assigned assessor gave me a call a day later asking me to bring the car for assessment. How did she not know my car was in a non driving state? Doesn't this get noted? A new assessor was assigned and that was it. I didn't hear a single thing thereafter. Eventually the third party's insurance gives me a call obviously requiring details as we had conflicting statements (there is camera proof though) but the details are irrelevant here.

Eventually I call the company responsible for the assessment/repair of my vehicle only to be informed that they're now closed over the festive period and will reopen the first week in January after the New Year. I was not informed of anything. Eventually I got an email requesting pictures of the accident, the Accidemt Report number, photos of my drivers license and the consent form to access my car and details. Thereafter, complete silence until I call them only to be told yet again, that they're awaiting the assessment to process the claim.

Fast forward, EVENTUALLY the assessment was completed and my car was declared a write off. I called to ask what the next step is/was, and I was told to complete an incident report and once again submit all the documents which I have already submitted multiple times at this point along with a settlement quote from my finance company .

I was told my car was to be moved from the Auto Repair Company to FNB's storage facility which took 2 days. I called yet AGAIN.. to be told they're awaiting for the car to be assigned a storage number before my claim will be sent to the claims manager to verify and approve it which should not take longer than 24-48 hours. I was also told that I would not be debited another month's premiums as my car was written off and the asset is no longer mine and that my policy will be cancelled.

Fast forward a whole week later. None of the above has taken place as the person responsible for handling my claim is on leave. Not only that, my settlement quote from my finance company has expired and I was told they would request a new one . Also, my account was debited with another month's premium AFTER I was told that would NOT happen. It is now 3 days after my claim was taken over by another consultant/advisor who said he would proceed in doing what the initial advisor was supposed to , including logging a refund of the premium I was charged , and yet again, it was not done and NOTHING has been communicated with me. The only time I ever hear from the FNB Insurance team is when I call them, they have not ONCE called me to update me. Them again , they had no reason to call me because it seems as though NOTHING has been done.

To put things in perspective, 2 of my fellow colleagues insured with other companies were both in accidents too. One of them happened on Christmas Eve , another write off AND he was at fault and guess what? 3 days later, claimed completed.

Here I am, almost 2 months later , with absolutely NO news regarding my claim. Not even so much as a phone call.

********** communication (or rather, the lack thereof) and poor service. If I could rate less than 1 star, I would. This is me being kind.

There is a reason banks should stick to banking and FNB is a prime example thereof.

Saying I am unhappy is an understatement
