FNB - shockingly bad - non resident account

At the beginning of July 2019 I departed with my 3 year old child for our 5 weeks vacation in Europe. We were looking forward to this for almost a year. I bank with FNB and have a non-resident account. Opening it and overall management has been somehow of a poor quality but I accepted it as I understand that I no longer live in Europe and the quality of banking in SA is not the best. Before our trip, I called the bank and notified them of my travel, I wanted to make sure that I will be able to use my card while abroad. I was ensured that they put a not on their system, and that next time I can just use the FNB app. As far as I was concerned, all was good to go. While I lived in Europe, I travelled extensively all around the world so was used to dealing with my bank when it come to such requests. How shocked I was when I landed and was unable to use my card, use ATM! I was with no cash! I called my husband who called FNB from SA.. he was advised that I could change my card limit in my app. This of course did not work. I went to Europe to travel, to have some dentistry work done, I booked accommodation, all with 3 year old child. This trip has turned to be a worse than a nightmare. I had to borrow money, reduce planned dentistry work, I was unable to buy anything that I could pay for. My husband asked FNB to contact me, they never did. When I returned to SA, I have submitted a complaint. NOBODY at any point at the FNB branch or over the phone mentioned I was not allowed to use my bank card overseas as I had a non-res account! My complain was resolved by telling me to call FNcard limits desk as they reduced my international limit. Really?? when?? why?? how?? SO I did call. I was met with an angry agent that I was calling the wrong number and he had nothing to do with my case. He put my through a number that only had answer machine. FNB, I understand that I only have non-res account, but I have it until I become a resident in SA. Has that not occurred to anyone? Major mistakes were made by the FNB staff on number of occasions and no responsibility taken. And that has to change!

FNB has responded! Now, when a complain is issues, it is for a reason. FNB explanation about change in legislation in 2017 is hardly satisfactory. Such explanation should had been provided prior to my travel. FNB missed a fact that I was complaining about their service not 2017 legislation. I still expect more.
