FNB Shenanigans
This story begins with me trying to trying to close my FNB gold cheque account. Roughly 4 months ago, I started the long and arduous task of closing my account. After expressing my discontent with the FNB consultant, I had told them that I would like to close my account, they had told me that it's not a problem, I had left R50 in the account to cover any costs/fees, when all was said and done the account had somehow ended up at - R45. They however told me that this is not an issue as "If the remaining balance is less than - R250, you do not have to pay the remaining amount". I thanked them and I left. A week later I get a notification from FNB warning me that if I don't settle my negative balance which was now at - R180, due to monthly account fees and a fine for having a negative balance. Of course, I was outraged, I thought I closed the account? I thought to myself. The following weekend I journeyed to the same FNB branch, where I was told that I would have to pay the account off in order to close it. I refused and explained the situation, I was told that the "banking team" (?) would sort it out and that I would get a notification telling me when it was done and the monthly fee and penalty were deducted. The following week I got the message, made a trip to the same FNB branch where after being blatantly ignored by the customer service representative, I had a chance to yet again close my account, at this point I felt defeated and payed the - R45 on the account, praying that I may never have to deal with FNB again. Fast forward to today, all I wanted to do was get a bank statement from the last month of my account that was closed and proof that the account was closed (this information is required by a 3rd party to prove that I did not recieve a payment). I explained this to the customer support representative who told me that I would need to open another account and deposit money into it... To request a bank statement for my old account... And then close the account that I just opened, in what world? After all of the inconvenience FNB has caused me and many others. Why can't I just pay the fee to the cashier? Why are you forcing me to open another damn account I am perfectly happy with my current bank. Not to mention that the customer support representative had ignored me after I asked him for a slip with a number so that I may wait for a consultant. FNB's customer support and customer experience has been disgusting absolutely and utterly appalling.
