FNB says "how can we help you" - yeah, sure!

The FNB motto is “how can we help you?” Well, I think it’s time for that motto to change. Due to restructuring within a Govt department that funds two legally binding contracts worth over R13million a year for three years, a payment of around R3.8m that was due to my Company has been delayed until around the end of January 2019. The total value of the two contracts over 3 years is around R42million. I approached the FNB Scottburgh branch (Business Section) to ask them to provide bridging finance of R**** for a period of 2 to 3 weeks so that 400 poverty relief workers who are engaged through these projects could be paid on 15th January 2019. After providing ALL (lots!) of documentation they required as well as offering surety from the sale of a property that is about to be concluded, I had to wait 4 working days to be told that my request was declined. So 400 poverty relief workers may have to wait another 2 weeks for their January 2019 wages. How can we help you – seemingly not at all. After well over 30 years with FNB, it’s time to find a new bank.

This seems to be the standard ploy with FNB. The feedback they give you is a reference number and that's it. End of story. Well, I now no longer need the temporary overdraft facility that I requested. The sale of my property has come through - as I told them it would - and the Govt department that I work with has finalised the transfer requirements for the funds that they owe my company - as I told them it would. The 400 people who are going to be paid late are the only people who suffered due to FNB's callous attitude. So FNB must STOP using the "how can we help you" slogan. And they can SHOVE their temporary overdraft facility with your 26% interest rate to boot. John Clayton
