FNB Roadside Assistance - Cancellation without permission

I've been a fairly happy FNB customer for about 5 years now. I signed up for FNB roadside assist through the cheque account because for R6.50/p.m, it is one of the best value for money services. I'd used this service a couple times, until Monday 13 Aug when I got stuck on the side of the road and called roadside assist only to be told I no longer have an active roadside assist profile. I had not requested that it be cancelled. Imagine getting to hospital and your medical aid had been cancelled without you knowing, So I had to call around for prices and find a company and pay R850 for a tow when usually roadside assist pays the first R750 per tow.

I called FNB and asked why my roadside assist had been cancelled. They said they have no way of knowing. They asked if i had received a new cheque card - because the roadside assist is linked to the card and not the account. (What kind of stupid system is that?) In any case, I hadn't received a new cheque card. I was told by their "premier banking division" that I should instead get a linked petro card so things like this don't happen in future. Basically telling me that the roadside assist service on the cheque card isn't a good one and I should instead pay R53/p.m for a linked petro card. What a load of bull to get more money. Maybe they cancelled my service because I had actually made use of it when I broke down before?

1) Don't cancel a service that your Client requested without informing them 2) When the Client asks why it was cancelled, don't tell them they should be using a different service in the first place 3) Offer to reimburse the Client the R750 for the cost because the service was cancelled without permission
