FNB refusing to close accounts to keep charging monthly fees

I have been trying to close my FNB accounts since the first week of December 2025. It is now January 2026, and FNB is still charging me fees for accounts I have officially requested to close multiple times. I have spoken to six different consultants (Tebello, Sherminor, Nompumelelo, Thulisile, Sina, and Sanelisiwe) via Secure Chat. On 4 December, I was promised closure within 7–10 days. On 12 December, FNB internally rejected the closure because of a "Shares Zero" account but failed to tell me, allowing fees to keep accruing. On 18 December, I followed their specific instruction to email the Shares Zero desk (Ref: ***) and gave explicit permission to donate my shares to clear the account. FNB has ignored my emails, ignored my chat instructions, and is effectively holding my profile hostage to collect monthly fees. This is a gross violation of "Treating Customers Fairly." I demand that FNB reverses all fees charged from 9 December onwards, executes the share donation I authorized weeks ago, and closes these accounts immediately. I have a full log of every chat and email and will be heading to the Banking Ombud if this isn't resolved today. Query Ref: ***

Email sent today.

To the FNB Complaints Department,
I am sending this as a final notice. I have followed every instruction provided by your Secure Chat consultants and the Share Investing desk.
  • On 18 December 2025, I sent the requested email to authorize the donation of my shares and the closure of my accounts.
  • It has been over three weeks with zero action and zero response.
  • FNB continues to keep my accounts open against my direct instructions, leading to unauthorized fee accrual.
I am no longer waiting for a "consultant to respond within 48 hours." If these accounts are not closed and I do not receive written confirmation by the end of business today, I will be lodging a formal dispute with the Banking Ombud and the FAIS Ombud for administrative negligence and breach of TCF (Treating Customers Fairly) protocols.
