FNB refuses to refund when ***** was committed through their online facilities
I had lodged an application for a refund due to ***** committed under the watch of FNB throught their online facilities. FNB in turn decided that they would not refund. I find the grounds for rejection unsatisfactory. The following are the reasons: • FNB thoroughly investigated your claim and found no involvement of any bank employee or failure of the Bank’s systems or processes. • The Bank has reviewed the case and considered all the facts, regrettably we have declined your request for a refund based on the following: • In order for the Contactless Card transaction/s to be processed, a registered/linked device was used behind a secure login.
I am completely unsatisfied with this information. I also note that later on FNB sent an SMS that informed me that for any transactions that come through I will be noticed and approve via the use of an OTP. This facility was not activated when the incident occurred and disadvantaged myself from taking precautions. As such, I believe that if the bank allows internet banking they should have such mechanisms to protect its clients. In the end, this is a matter of a *****ulent activity that happened under the watch of FNB and the assurance given that the online facilities are safe... In other banks I bank with this would not have happened considering that they always have the OTP facility active and as such one never gets monies deducted *****ulently. FNB should take the responsibility that the ***** happened right under their watch through their online facilities. I would like that this matter is escalated to the highest level that it may so that I am reimbursed and I do not escalate outside FNB. I hope we can reach an amicable decision. Kind regards, Lwazi Bhengu
