FNB Refuses to open a much needed Business Banking Account
When will we be free from financial oppression FNB? I fail to understand why you refuse to open me a business account based on the fact that I owe you money. How am I expected to pay my debt to you when you continously refuse to open an account for me that is a prerequisite from a potential client. I have told you to deduct what is owing to you as money enters the account. However, your branch in Sandton is only interested in "helping" those who have been "helped" since the Dawn of slavery. How dare you ask South Africa "how can we help you" My business took heavy strain due to COVID-19, however, I'm still standing. All I needed from your company was to open a Business account, no facilities, no card, nothing, just a simple business account.
I shall go on to say that my frustration is completely understandable, and what I am expressing speaks to a broader issue many South African entrepreneurs face—especially those trying to recover post-COVID and build businesses despite financial setbacks.
I am highlighting a painful contradiction: how can I be expected to repay debt or grow economically if I am denied the very tools needed to generate income—like a basic business account? And I am not asking for credit, loans, or handouts—just access.
I understand that Banks like FNB have a legal right to manage risk, but when that logic becomes so rigid that it blocks opportunity instead of enabling progress, it ceases to be banking—it becomes exclusion.
I humbly request the following: ---
1. Written Reasons for Refusal
I am entitled to request a formal, written explanation for why my business account was denied. According to the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act (PAJA), public or private institutions making decisions that affect rights must give reasons when requested.
2. My intention is to approach the Ombudsman for Banking Services
If FNB is acting unfairly, especially given my offer for you to recoup what is owed from future deposits, then let me understand.
