FNB refuses to close an account that's been ineffective over 5 years!!!

If I could 1/1000 star rating, I would do that! I previously had a cheque account with FNB, and stopped using sometime before 2020. My cheque account card expired in 11/21. I do not bank with FNB, however I have a mortgage loan with them, which I intend moving to a different provider.

I have learnt that I have an account called Cbs Legal Dda with FNB, account number *** with a balance of -R6,920.37. This account has been accumulating monthly interest of 1.15% a month. This is a chequa account that FNB decided not to close, but kept active all these years. When I enquired with the bank some years ago, I was informed that the bank has decided to impose monthly fees on this unused account. It's been alomost 5 years or more, and the account is still "active".

This account is officially dormant, but starnge enough it's still attracting interest. FNB is a ****, and I've lodged a complaint with the National Financial Ombuds Scheme. I hope for a positive outcome. I would not recommend anyone to use FNB, especially for long term financial commitments such as morgage or vehicle loan as their interest rates are based on race profiling as proven by Emerald van Zyl.

Reviewer Update
Dear FNB Team,

I would like to sincerely thank you for your positive response to my recent complaint regarding the interest accrued on my inactive cheque account. I appreciate your swift action in closing the account and resolving the matter.

I would also like to extend a special thank you to Patricia Kgosimmele, Complaints Coordinator, who provided outstanding support throughout the investigation. Her regular updates and professionalism were highly reassuring, and I truly appreciate the care and attention she put into handling my case.

Thank you once again.

Kind regards,
