FNB refuses to block Ignite Fitness from *******ly taking my money.
In December 2018 I tried out Ignite Fitness when they opened up a new branch, within the first 5 days I can cancel the subscription and they'll refund the initiation fee no questions asked. The team was lovely but after the 3rd day I decided that I did not want to continue with them, the team told me that if I wanted to cancel I needed to hand in a letter of cancellation stating why I was cancelling. I returned the next day with a signed printed copy and handed it to the Ignite Fitness team member at the front desk. I also emailed and sent a digital copy to the IF team member that initially signed me up, she then told me it's sad to see me go but the fees will be reversed. On the 31st of December an amount came off my account, I thought it was the initial amount getting reversed and didn't think much, I thought they took care of it and left it at that. February was a very hectic month for me so I didn't follow up again but came 2nd of March another amount came off my account - this is where I called FNB in a panic and the **** storm started. FNB said they'll reverse the amounts at a cost of R20 per reversal, after a day I saw that only the newest two amounts got reversed and not the 31st of December amount. I called FNB again and another consultant said that it's because the amount is older than 30 days and I needed to fill in a form and email it to her. I did so and a few days later I got an SMS saying "FNB :-) Your debit order query for Ref:[ ********** 4_ ********** 08] is unsuccessful, as more than one reason for disputing was selected .". I emailed two different departments and about this since the call centre said they can't help me, and they told me that they can't help me either, I need to call them again. At this point I was getting fairly frustrated and decided to HelloPeter then. They responded quickly by giving me a call, saying that they have reversed the newest amounts and that the older amounts can take up to 40 days to be reversed... They also said that they have blocked IF from taking the same amount from my account but if they changed their reference or the amount it would go through again. I talked to my dad that has a big account with FNB and he said that that is not the case, FNB can actually block a recipient from ever taking money from you again when requesting, he doesn't know why they are refusing to block IF for me. Halfway through March another amount came off my account and this time for a different amounts. I called FNB and posted to HelloPeter for a second time, FNB reversed and said again that they did warn me amounts would go through again if they changed the amount/reference. IF's accountant Eduan hen followed that up with a call asking why the debit order wasn't going through. I told him that I never stayed with the gym and that these debit orders were going off *******ly. He apologized and said he'd fix it. I sent the cancellation form to the IF member again that signed me up and she said she followed up with all the relevant parties on her side. Now, first of April, the same amount that came off 31st December, 2nd Feb, and 2nd March came off again, even though FNB promised me that they blocked that amount from ever coming off my account again. FNB said that this is not their fault and that I should follow up with Ignite Fitness, again... I contacted the team member again and she got Eduan to call me again. He apologized profusely and said I much just send him a statement through email so he can reverse the correct amounts. I emailed them through to him and sent a copy to the team member for safe keeping. Eduan did not reply. Sent him another two emails over the span of a week and finally heard back from him by the end of the next week, with no solution.
By this time I think it would probably be easier to just cancel my FNB account as a whole and moving to a different bank that won't allow ******* debit orders to come off my account and cost me thousands of rands... How difficult can it be to block a single recipient that keeps on taking money from me *******ly? And then you charge me for every amount they ***** from me to get it reversed? Thievery at its best.
