FNB randomly terminates good customers without justification!?!

After being an FNB customer for more than 7 years, FNB decided to terminate my account without any reasoning, by simply providing a vague email.

Now i'm sure there is a reason, some transaction which has been flagged as suspicious or something (else i'd be even more concerned that FNB just rolls some dice and sends termination letters) - but everything i've ever done is completely legitimate, and i'd happily explain any activity on my accounts however FNB has not provided any such opportunity.

I'm a New Zealander working for a large multi-national corporation in Cape Town and pretty much act as most individuals do - a salary in rands, a few overseas trips for work each year and general expenses in RSA, have been regularly contributing to a savings account each month for many years and I have even recommended FNB to people in the past. I thought i was a model customer, but all of this so i could be terminated without cause?

Now the fun part of how FNB deals with its customers. I responded to the termination letter within 90 minutes of receiving it. The only response i got from FNB after numerous emails and calls was an email stating that, in essence, FNB does not have to provide reasons for termination and this took them 4 weeks!!

The call centres of FNB are of very limited value when you have a serious issue. It's such a fragmented business that everyone pretty much just suggests you contact another part of FNB. While some individuals do try to assist, they seem rather powerless. THREE TIMES i had commitments from Premier Banking that management would call be back within 24 hours, every time nobody did. Currently waiting for the 4th time, i expect the same outcome.

And the complaints line, i actually tried this as a last resort after trying and settle things the fair and honest way, but the complaints line - what an absolute joke. They couldnt help, and said that sorry the ONLY MANAGER is off sick today so we cant escalate this.

FNB is 24 hours from terminating accounts of an honest customer, without cause or justification.

A distressed FNB customer (well at least for 24 more hours...)
