FNB Private Wealth, George — Incompetence on Display
On 22 June 2025, I submitted a simple request: transfer my TFSA to Discovery Bank and close selected accounts. Discovery even supp**** FNB with clear step-by-step instructions. Two months later, this has still not been completed. What went wrong: All documentation was submitted promptly — yet repeatedly requested again. Funds were withdrawn from my TFSA more than two weeks ago, but never credited to Discovery. Transfers were reversed without explanation, conflicting certificates were issued, and proof was demanded despite already being supp****. Discovery’s written instructions were ignored, and the George Private Wealth team stalled at every step. Communication was vague, delayed, and contradictory — in some cases, non-existent. Impact: Financial loss: lost growth on tax-free savings. Time wasted: forced to chase daily and micromanage a process that should have been routine. Why it matters: This is supposed to be Private Wealth banking — a premium service promising competence and accountability. Instead, it has been a shambolic display of amateurism and disorganisation. My family and I once held FNB in high regard; today it has shrivelled into a shadow of the institution it once was. As Rassie once said of the Springboks: “they played like dog sht.”* That is the only accurate description of how FNB’s George Private Wealth team has handled this matter. I hope that my account of this fiasco spares someone else the same frustration. Let’s now see what generic response their Dispute Department leaves here.
