FNB Private Clients Misled Me, Repeatedly Pulled My Credit Profile and Downgraded My Approved Facility After 3 Weeks of Delays

Extremely disappointed with the handling of my FNB Private Clients credit card application.

My application has now been under validation for nearly three weeks with constant delays, repeated requests for the same documents, poor communication, and contradictory information from different departments.

I was initially advised that a R55,000 facility had been approved. During the process, I mistakenly selected a lower limit and was specifically informed that this would simply be corrected back to the originally approved amount without requiring a new application.

Instead, the process turned into weeks of repeated document submissions including ITA34s, bank statements, income and expense forms, proof of education and additional supporting documents, all while having to continuously follow up myself for updates.

What makes this even worse is that I later discovered that a new application had apparently been processed despite being told this would not happen.

After almost three weeks of delays and reassurances, I was suddenly informed that only R10,000 could be approved based on an income figure of approximately R12,988, despite me clearly disclosing additional income of approximately R28,000 per month together with commission income of approximately R9,000 per month. Supporting documents and bank statements reflecting significantly higher income and business activity were submitted, yet this appears to have been disregarded entirely.

I am also extremely concerned that approximately six bureau enquiries have now been conducted on my credit profile during the same process and repeated reassessments, with no proper resolution still being provided.

This entire experience has been exhausting, frustrating and highly disappointing, especially from a Private Clients division where one expects professionalism, urgency and proper communication.

Very disappointing experience overall.

Reviewer Update
I remain concerned that I am still being referred between departments without a clear resolution regarding the repeated bureau enquiries linked to this application process and the prejudice caused to my credit profile.
To date, multiple enquiries have been recorded during the same application and reassessment process, and I have still not received proper clarification regarding:
  • the reasons for each enquiry,
  • whether all enquiries were authorised,
  • and whether these enquiries negatively impacted the reassessment outcome.
I also maintain that the reassessment did not fully consider all of my income streams and supporting financial information submitted.
I respectfully request that this matter be resolved urgently and that I receive a substantive response by close of business today.
Failing this, I will have no option but to escalate the matter formally to the Ombudsman for Banking Services for further review, including the handling of the repeated bureau enquiries and the overall assessment process.
