FNB Premier Fusion Account – Ongoing account errors, blocked access, ignored complaints, and salary deductions on a disputed balance

I am documenting my full experience with my FNB Premier Fusion Account because what has happened over the past year is unacceptable.

For close to a year, my account has reflected a negative balance of approximately R5,000. This was presented as an overdraft or credit facility, despite the fact that I did not have proper access to this credit. The only time I was ever able to access the full facility was when I first upgraded to the account. After that, access was restricted without explanation.

At one point, I attempted to use the credit facility again and was only allowed to access approximately R750, even though the account still reflected a R5,000 limit. After settling that amount immediately, I was no longer able to access the credit facility at all.

Despite this, my account continued to reflect a negative balance of around R5,000 for months. During this time:

* Deposits into my account were not used to recover this balance * My account functioned like a restricted debit account * The negative balance remained visible but inactive

I raised this issue multiple times.

In addition, I experienced ongoing access problems due to an OTP/contact number issue that was never properly resolved. For years, I reported that OTPs were being sent to an old number. I was repeatedly told that this had been fixed, but it was not.

Because of this:

* I could not properly access the FNB app * My online banking functionality was limited * I was blocked from verifying my device * I was unable to use secure chat properly

This meant that even when problems occurred, I was unable to access full support.

Recently, the situation escalated.

I received a notification that my account was overdrawn by R294.80 in bank charges. To resolve this, I transferred R1,041.54 into the account.

Instead of correcting the account, the system immediately adjusted my balance to reflect approximately -R5,363.80 and reduced my available funds.

After this:

* My account balance showed a large negative amount * My available balance was significantly reduced * Funds that should have remained available were no longer accessible

At this point, I had not used the credit facility in any meaningful way for months.

I then:

* Sent multiple emails to FNB * Logged formal complaints (*** and ***) * Attempted to use secure chat * Attempted phone support

My emails were not properly responded to. Secure chat was restricted due to “unverified device” errors. Phone support was ineffective, including a call that was disconnected after I was asked to adjust my signal.

I escalated the matter to the Ombudsman (Case ***).

In my communication with FNB, I clearly stated:

* The balance was disputed * The account was in an incorrect state * No deductions or set-off should be app**** while the matter was under investigation

Despite this, the situation worsened.

Over the Good Friday period:

* An amount of approximately R600+ was deducted from my account

My account remained in a restricted and unusable state.

Then, upon receiving my salary:

* My salary was deposited into my account * FNB immediately app**** deductions * An amount was deducted toward a loan repayment * The disputed negative balance was also offset

After these deductions:

* My available balance was reduced to R0.00 * I had no access to my own salary * I was unable to meet basic needs

This happened:

* While the balance was under dispute * After I had explicitly warned the bank in writing * After escalation to the Ombudsman * After multiple unanswered emails

At no point did I receive a proper response addressing the issue before these deductions were app****.

This is not a single incident. This is a pattern:

* Incorrect account balances * Restricted access to banking services * Unresolved technical issues * Ignored complaints * Deductions app**** during an active dispute

I have been unable to properly use my account, access support, or rely on my own funds.

This is exactly the problem.
You keep “logging” new complaints instead of addressing the issue that has already been reported multiple times.
I already have existing references:
***F / *** / Ombudsman Case ***
Now you’ve added another one (***NF), which just resets the process again instead of resolving anything.
Let’s be clear:
  • The balance on my account is under dispute
  • I raised this multiple times
  • I escalated it to the Ombudsman
  • I explicitly warned that no deductions should be app****
Despite all of that, money was still taken from my account, including from my salary, leaving me with no access to my own funds.
This is not a new complaint.
This is an ongoing issue that has not been resolved.
Creating new reference numbers and asking me to email again does not fix the problem.
I need an actual response that addresses:
  • Why funds were taken while the account is under dispute
  • Why I was left with no access to my own money
  • What is being done to correct this
I will not restart this process again. This needs to be resolved based on the existing case and escalation.

Follow-up to my original complaint regarding my FNB Premier Fusion Account.
It has now been nearly a month since I escalated this matter, including escalation to the National Financial Ombud Scheme (NFO ***), and FNB still has not provided a substantive response or resolution.
Instead of addressing the disputed deductions and negative balance on my account, FNB has repeatedly sent the exact same generic email over and over again stating only that the matter is “still being assessed” and that “feedback will be provided in due course.”
I now have multiple complaint references from FNB:
***F / *** / ***NF
Despite all of these references and escalations:
  • disputed deductions were still app**** to my account
  • my salary funds were impacted
  • subsequent deposits into my account continued being reduced by the disputed negative balance
  • I have still not received a proper explanation for the deductions or balance adjustments
At this point, it feels like FNB’s strategy is simply to delay the matter indefinitely while sending automated holding responses instead of actually resolving the issue.
What makes this even more frustrating is that the deductions and balance changes on my account happened instantly, yet resolving the issue somehow takes weeks of “assessment” with no meaningful communication.
I have kept records of all emails, complaint references, screenshots, and escalation correspondence.
Customers should not have to fight this hard just to get proper answers regarding their own money.

UPDATE: I Have Finally Given Up on My FNB Fusion Premier Account

This is my final update on this matter.

It has now been months since I first reported my Fusion Premier account dispute to FNB.

During that time I did everything that was asked of me. I logged formal complaints, waited through investigation periods, followed up repeatedly, escalated the matter to the National Financial Ombud Scheme South Africa (NFO), and spent days putting together a comprehensive evidence pack containing statements, transaction history, payment confirmations, credit bureau reports, account screenshots, screen recordings, complaint references and email correspondence.

Despite all of that, I still do not have an explanation that addresses the actual issues I raised.
Instead, FNB repeatedly responded by explaining how an overdraft facility works in general and attached pricing guides, account agreements and terms and conditions that I already had. That was never my dispute.

My dispute has always been about how my account actually behaved.

The position taken by FNB is that I was simply using my Fusion credit facility. My evidence raises questions that I believe were never properly answered.

For months my spending came from my own salary, my own deposits, transfers from my own savings account and, at times, short-term loans that I personally took out.

If I truly had unrestricted access to a functioning R5,000 Fusion credit facility the entire time, why would I have needed additional short-term loans? Why would FNB approve me for a separate R5,000 personal loan that I have been repaying every month? None of that made sense to me, which is exactly why I asked FNB to show me, month by month, how much I supposedly spent from the overdraft compared to my own income and deposits.

That question was never answered.

The evidence I submitted also included months of overdrawn emails. After the initial use of the facility when I first opened the account, the overdrawn amounts I received were generally much smaller and appeared consistent with monthly account fees, credit facility charges and other charges after my own available funds had already reached zero.

The declined transactions I submitted were also misunderstood. Those were not attempts to rely on the overdraft for everyday spending. They were small test transactions I occasionally made after contacting FNB because I was checking whether the facility had finally been restored. In many cases I still had money available in my savings account and would simply transfer my own money afterwards to cover any charges.

I also experienced long-standing issues with my online banking functionality, and even today my cellphone banking still identifies my account as an Aspire account instead of Fusion Premier.

After months of trying to resolve this, I have accepted the financial loss that I suffered.
I have reached the point where I no longer have the energy to continue arguing over the same issues.
As a result, I have opened a new FNB Premier Current Account and instructed FNB to permanently close my Fusion Premier Account.

This is not because I believe my concerns were resolved. It is because I have completely lost confidence in the Fusion product and no longer wish to pay for or use it.

I'm leaving this update here for anyone considering a Fusion account so they can understand my experience and the steps I took before making the decision to walk away.😏🚶🏿♂️
