FNB Predatory Practices
I recently discovered that FNB charged me an additional R200 for a payment I made a week ago. The reason being "unpaid item". When the purchase was made, I had the funds to cover it and it was set aside. I was informed that the penalty was because FNB debited its service fees, which were also taken from my overall balance. This essentially shorted my payment for the purchase I made an entire week ago by around R130. So FNB charged me way more money to cover what it shorted me on top of its service fees.
While I'm sure this aligns with its terms and services, it's obviously predatory and *********. There's no way to receive InContact notifications or messages for FNB banking fees. You're essentially forced to sift through its unreasonably unclear account overview to ensure that you have enough funds to cover your purchase If you're like me and you're on chronic medication that you pay for out of pocket, you have to be cognizant of this.
FNB isn't financially sustainable for those who are on lower income levels. I recommend avoiding the bank completely or at least not using it to host your main transaction account. It's not going to change anytime soon, this is just their business model. They prey on your lapses of judgment.
