FNB Non Resident Accounts (faceless) Department

The Nonresident Department will give you a real run around if you want to open a non resident account. They claim not to have received forms when there is proof they have, they ask you for the same forms over and over, you cannot deal with one person to resolve issues, processes take longer than they undertake they will. They ask for certified documents and then drop the requirement for certification and do not realise that certification overseas is a costly process let alone courier charges as SA postal service is not reliable. Finally you can be sure they will ask you for documentary evidence of source of funds for all deposits made to your account and will not respond to queries when there is no documentation possible eg a family member depositing funds into your account. I filled in a self certification form in December 2025 and am told to fill in a new one in February 2026. If you do phone non resident department they will not put you through to the person who you were emailing but a new person will try and answer your query without the continuity of previous submissions or conversations. There are no personal email addresses within the department so you are always emailing a faceless department. I got email responses that asked for more documents to be filled in and it was clear from the email trail that they had been supp**** and acknowledged and the person responding had not read the previous emails. I have had in excess of 6 to 8 different people communicate with me online. Queries are not answered because there is no individual accountability within the department. I would recommend that if opening a foreign resident account that you go to one of the other banks. Foreign investment is vital to South Africa and FNB will make the experience quite unpleasant. FNB stands for Find a New Bank.
