FNB NO FUNDS CHARGE
I am deeply disappointed in FNB. I recently noticed a number of deductions labeled NO FUNDS ITEMS PAID (or something like tha). These deductions were in excess of R2000 over a couple of .months. On contacting their customer service I was told that I don't have funds in my account when I made the purchases. - which I did. They said something about merchants banking it late. This makes no sense at all because the funds were reserves and could not have been if there were no funds. I had in mind to visit a branch because none of it made sense but with a bit of research I saw that there were a number of complaints about this dating back a number of years. I have with the bank for more than 20 years, an advocate and big FNB fan but am reviewing my banking. I probably won't close the account but will restructure and add another bank for my transactional banking. No doubt they have a 'valid' explanation as the lady at the contact centre patiently explained the deductions to me. It that is their system: very well, but nothing could ever justify this. I feel cheated.

Kindly note that any funds reserved for point-of-sale transactions will only be deducted from your transactional account when the merchant successfully banks the transaction with its bank. Unfortunately, we do not have any authority or control over when the relevant merchant would bank your purchases, and therefore, it is your responsibility to monitor your transactional account.
The above information is available on the FNB website on the terms and conditions, under point 1-10. The item paid fee on your account is charged when a payment or purchase is made and there are insufficient available funds in your account. Please refer to our latest pricing guide for more information which is available on the FNB website or at any branch. We can change our fees from time to time, however, we will advise you of this by giving you notice of the changes within a reasonable time before the change takes effect.
