FNB Negligence & Zero Accountability

I would "0" if I could. I am beyond frustrated with FNB. For months, I have had zero feedback on my personal loan issue. My personal banking profile was blocked without explanation, and I was later told FNB “cannot debit” from my Discovery account. Yet during the same time, my credit card, vehicle finance, and home loan were all successfully debited from that exact account. Three months later, I suddenly saw a debit attempt for the personal loan, with no notification, no apology, nothing. How is this professional service? FNB keeps insisting I am in arrears for the months they failed to debit, even though their own staff confirmed all debit orders were loaded successfully before later contradicting themselves. This is negligent, misleading, and directly violates my rights under the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) Section 54, which entitles me to timely, fair, and quality service, and Section 41, which prohibits false or misleading representations. FNB’s miscommunication and contradictions have caused this situation, yet they are trying to shift the blame onto me. This must be resolved, my credit record restored and FNB must be held accountable.

Despite repeated emails and calls, FNB continues to contradict itself and avoid accountability. In June I was told my debit orders were all in order, then months later I was suddenly informed Discovery cannot be debited. FNB even wrote: “Kindly note that Discovery does not support DebiCheck mandates, which has impacted the success of these debit orders.” This is not Discovery’s fault, it is FNB’s fault for failing to notify me properly and for contradicting their own staff. To make matters worse, during this entire time my FNB Home Loan, WesBank Vehicle Loan, and FNB Credit Card all debited successfully from Discovery. How can FNB claim DebiCheck is the issue when their own products worked fine? I am demanding senior management call me directly today to resolve this. If not, my next post will include the names of those responsible.

What frustrates me even more is that for weeks, all my emails and attempts to get answers from FNB were ignored. Yet the moment I posted here on Hello Peter, suddenly I got a phone call back. Why does it take a public complaint to force action? A professional bank should resolve issues through proper service channels, not only when its reputation is at risk. This proves that FNB only reacts when exposed, not when customers ask for help.

This is not Discovery’s fault. It is FNB’s negligence and miscommunication. The fact that my case only received proper attention after going public shows FNB does not respect customers, only its reputation. I am still demanding senior management contact me directly to resolve this matter and correct my credit record.
