FNB MUST FALL!!!
FNB MUST FALL!!!!!
Recently had a very bad experience with FNB, I recently moved all my transactional accounts away from FNB & decided to join another bank institution because of bad service delivery. I'm a bit of control freak so I didn't allow the new bank to move my entire profile on my behalf & I prefer to move everything myself. Therefore took matters in own hands...
I was a private banker client with FNB, had a cheque account, personal loan & a credit card.
So let me share my experience on each one of the accounts below:
Cheque Account:
Firstly, FNB is the most expensive bank currently in South Africa with bank charges on Private Banking, as of 1 July 2019, the bank charges has gone up to R399 per month. Secondly, we as consumers are paying for a service of private banking & would expect assistance from the point of contact in the bank without having to leave the comfort of your own home. Well, surprisingly my private banker can't even help me with a 3 month bank statement digitally... Shocking... Thirdly, never met the private banker in person & this person is never available, doesn't respond on time with e-mails & requests & just utterly not helpful. The bank (Private Banking) has also not spent any efforts to try & meet with their existing customers to find out their needs. So in closing, we paying a service fee of R399 per month to bunch of *********** people sitting behind a desk pulling their salary every month. When I moved all my money out of this account with an exact balance of R0. The private banker has the audacity to send me a mail asking to transfer R80 into the account as she is not able to close it off because on her system it shows that the account is on negative balance of R80. So I logged into my online banking profile & sent her screenshots as proof that it shows R0 on my side... So, are we not using the same systems then???
Personal Loan Account:
Wow, where do I start...? I'm the type of DIY person you get in life, prefer to do everything myself. FNB made it possible for me by using their Online Banking Service, just a pity that their IT systems has bugs in it & a lying system... Before I settled my Personal Loan account, I logged into my Online Banking Profile & viewed my settlement amount, please note that the value showing on your online banking profile is not a true settlement value. It seems to me as if this value is provided to you without any interest calculated. So, I used this value as a ball park figure of what I need to settle. App**** for the amounts at the new banking institution & they settled this amount on my behalf (directly from the new bank into the personal loan account), I did not even see the transaction. So, the settlement was done close to month end & debit order date, FNB also took an instalment at the end of the month. So I paid in excess of about R99k in total to the Personal Loans department (Also note, the settlement amount from Online Banking at the time of application with new bank was showing about R93k, so I assume that the interest had run afterwards & when the new banking institution settled the account, it was actually about R95k. So right here is a big problem for me... FNB needs to have consistency in their Online Banking, stop trying to be the no 1 bank in SA if you can't do it properly, don't show the value or provide settlement amounts on your online banking without any interest calculated because this is lying to their customers! Nevertheless, so I thought it's fine, the bank would then credit the full instalment amount that was debited off the account incorrectly. Guess what, I didn't get a full credit on the debit order that was incorrectly taken, they gave me a credit less R565, when I questioned it, I was advised that this was for interest... Once again, after having massive arguments with the Personal Loans department (I was told by my private banker that I need to phone the Personal Loans department directly.... Once again, why do we pay for a private banking service..? Isn't this their job?). Finally got the credit paid back into my cheque account, guess what happened then?? Once again, some or other bank charges went off from the account & was paid again less R352... So this gives you R917 bank charges that was taken from my credit due to me... God knows why...? So, make the maths & figure out what I paid into the account & what I actually received back... Say no more...
Credit Card:
Before I settled my credit card, I phone the private banking suite & asked them what is the settlement & what I need to pay to get the account on a zero , I was told, just the outstanding authorisations of R250, so whatever I was owing on the account + R250 extra for the outstanding authorisations. So I did & transferred exactly the correct amounts to get the balance to R0... Shockingly, I received a phone call from a private banker advising me that I'm owing R563 on the credit card before they can close it.... Once again, I provided screenshots that the account is indeed on R0 from Online Banking... Obviously I refused to pay anything but the bank also can't provide me with any reasons as to why this systems are lying to me. The only excuse I'm getting is that it is interest that hasn't been calculated before I settled the account... Suddenly today, I receive an SMS from FNB saying that my balance of my credit card is R772... So, what's the moral of the story here??? Am I correct in saying that the bank has no FJ&^ idea what they doing??? You can't phone me on Friday & telling me the amount is R563 & on Tuesday sent me an SMS saying the amount is R772. What double standards are these..?
That's basically my side of the story & would like to just warn my fellow citizens of this country to be fully aware of your finances & please do check your bank charges every month. Just in my story above, we talking about +- R2000 that the bank wants to ***** from me due to all kinds of excuses... Interest, bank charges etc...
All I'm saying guys, think about a Supermarket, if you walk down the isles & you see a product on the shelve with a price tag of R80, when you get to the cashier to pay, you expecting to pay R80, not R150... This is exactly what FNB is doing to their customers, providing you with false information (Online Banking Service & Mobile App) & when you actually want to pay / settle the amounts, they load the price with more hidden costs that they not sharing upfront with you...
Do you really want to bank with someone that's doing business like this? Do you really want to pay increased bank charges for the so called "Private Banking" with absolutely zero service?
If you're a FNB customer & you reading my story till this end, PLEASE MOVE YOUR ****ING BANK ACCOUNT AWAY FROM THIS BANK, THEY USELESS...
There are better, more efficient banking institutions out there, hungry for your business!
Don't be like me that's stuck with this bank for 18 years, paying ridiculously high interest rates & only moved my accounts recently... I've wasted so much money over the past 18 years it's not even funny...
Food for thought:
18 years with FNB, took out an unsecured loan with FNB at 26% interest per annum (thinking that I got the personalised deal linked to my credit bureaux because this is how they selling it to you). New banking institution gave me an unsecured loan at 20% interest per annum.
Thanks for reading my review & I hope that you could take my advice & just move your accounts.
In Closure:
FNB MUST FALL!!!
