FNB must be the worst bank in South Africa
FNB has let me down again and again, and I have decided this is the last time. It is time to deactivate my FNB account. I have taken temporary employment in Canada, and have encountered issues with transactions made here, particularly with Walmart Canada and making a forex payment from my FNB account to a Canadian bank account. Firstly, Walmart decided to cancel two online transactions when I used the FNB debit card for whatever reason. Their procedure is to cancel the order and never further process the transaction. The problem comes into authorisation holds placed on the transaction amounts by FNB. These are supposed to expire, usually within eight days on a debit card. In my case, the authorisation holds have been in place for almost an entire month, and since these transactions were for large amounts, this has led to my account being overdrawn. I am a premier FNB customer and I have been communicating by email through their ********** email account with Mahlodi Mashiane. This should be a simple issue to fix, but I have firstly found FNB to be non-communicative, i.e., they respond very slowly, and secondly, they don't seem to be able to or willing to understand the problem. I have been given a generic transaction dispute form to fill in when really it is not a transaction dispute. It is simply a request to withdraw the authorisation holds on canceled orders. And along with the dispute form, their glib advice is that the turnover time might take more than a month. The second complaint relates to the forex transaction. There is a problem, and the issue has been passed to their department dealing with forex issues. I noticed in the email chain that the importance of my request was given a status of 'low', and I have not heard anything more about the request despite several repeated requests for status updates.
