FNB Misleading Clients
In 2015 I went to FNB branch at Denlyn to open funeral covers for my 2 siblings who were unemployed. The agreement was that the covers would be in their names and I'll be the beneficiary so that in the even of death, the policies could pay out and I take care of the funeral expenses. The agreement was that the premiums will debit directly from my account on a monthly basis. Since then the premiums were debited without any challenge, until recently when I noticed that they debits were bouncing back. I then approached branch with my sister to enquire as to the reasons, and I was told that the policies lapsed due to "insufficient" funds in their bank accounts. I then asked which bank accounts because there was not need to open bank accounts for unemployed people, I was told that what happened because as the premiums increases and the bank debit transaction fees the amounts became insufficient. I argued that the reason I wanted the policies to debit directly from my account, was to ensure that increases to the premium will then be taken care of without any issues. According to me the consultant has misled us and now the bank doesn't want to investigate this matter and take accountability for it and re-instate the policies with their full benefits. Instead they throw me the POPI Act to cover one of their own. My reference number to my query is ***.
