FNB Legal Sucks - Zero service and you'll need a court order to cancel your service!

In essence, DO NOT waste your time with FNB Law on Call. Pathetic/non-existent service, AND they don't allow you to cancel your service!

My wife and I run a couple of small businesses and decided to get FNB Law on Call to protect us against dubious contractors and non-paying clients etc. We signed up with them about a year ago and logged our first claim around 6 months ago. We spent considerable time compiling the case and liaising with their "lawyers" in the first month of submitting the case. After that, we heard nothing from FNB legal despite numerous follow-ups from our side. They only decided to get back to us when we decided to cancel our service.

Now we are stuck with a different problem, besides being out of pocket for the money we were trying to get back from our non-paying client/s, they won't allow us to cancel our service! And, we STILL have not received any value, outcome or recourse for the service we have been paying for a year!

FNB do not take care of their Private Clients, they handed me over to debt collectors for R250!

I have another complaint about FNB, and I'm concerned with how FNB treats their private clients, which completely caught me off guard. As someone who’s been banking with FNB for years, both personally and for my business, I didn’t expect to be let down like this.

Here’s what happened: I had a business account with FNB that I used for a charity project aimed at providing sanitary pads to girls' homes and orphanages. After a while, due to a lack of time to fundraise, I stopped using the account. It slipped my mind since there were no funds left in it, and I assumed it was inactive. No big deal, right?

Wrong. Fast forward to now, I got a shocking call from debt collectors over a R250 fee! FNB decided to hand over my account to collectors without proper notice. They claim they sent an email, but let’s be real—who can keep track of every single email when you’re juggling a dozen things daily?

As a private client, I expected a bit more effort from FNB—a call or even a WhatsApp message to flag something as significant as handing me over to collectors. It feels like a basic courtesy to make sure I’m informed properly so I can handle the issue before it blows up. Now, this has not only caused me unnecessary stress but also embarrassment and a lot of frustration.

What’s really disappointing is that this could have been easily avoided with just a little communication. The Consumer Protection Act talks about treating customers fairly and keeping them properly informed, which I really don’t think happened here.

I hope FNB takes this feedback seriously. I believe in resolving issues and maintaining good relationships, but this experience has really made me rethink if FNB values my business as much as I thought they did.

Thank you, please also refer to my reply/second complaint. Equally, if not more concerning!
