FNB- lack of care and interest in giving back money that was wrongfully taken
In all my years of being a loyal FNB client, I have NEVER come across such *********** staff members and a company that claim to be such a highly accredited bank and service provider but cannot sort out a simple problem that was not even my fault to begin with. on the 01/11/19, I received a notification from my FNB cellphone banking app that an amount of R175 was taken from my account from a merchant by the name of Ss-Legal. I immediately phoned my mother as I am student attending Rhodes University down in Grahamstown. I am originally based in Durban. My mom advised me to head straight to the FNB branch down in grahamstown when i get the chance to because this happened in the middle of me preparing for my final exams. I headed off to the bank and a staff member out me on the phone with general banking inquiries. after getting off the phone with the consultant, i was told that the money was "taken out of my account but then was put back and that i should see if reflect in my account sometime that same day which was the 04/11/19 as the 01/11/19 fell on a weekend. trusting the so called "well equipped and trained FNB consultant, i patiently waited for the money to be put back into my account. i waited until the 07/11/19 and still nothing had reflected in my account. So, again, breaking away from my studying time, i made another 20 minute long walk to the bank to find out what the problem was. i cannot recall much from this second visit but i do remember them doing an investigation to find out who Ss-Legal was and that matters would be taken further from there. whilst being on the phone with general enquires, i was told that this transaction comes up as a debit order which i was told that only I could have given the authorisation for this Ss-Legal to debit my account. I then told them that i have given no company except for my music app called Deezer, to debit my account. I eventually left. upon my third visit, I had once again been put onto the phone with general inquiries and had been taken on a merry go round through all the departments because FNB staff are unequipped to sort out my problem. with FNB finding out doing their investigation to find out who Ss-Legal was, i =received an SMS on the 07/11/19 stating that "We hereby confirm that R175 was debited by INTECON". i received another SMS on the 11/11/19 stating that the R175 was debited by SureSystems FNB Personal Loan. both of these SMS had contact numbers for these companies. both numbers either were engaed or weren't working. I contacted my mother who had to break her sleep to do her own investigations on these SMS's. upon my 4TH visit to FNB, again, i was put on the phone with general inquiries, taken on another merry go round through all their departments and then eventually, I was told that FNB has been blocked by Ss-Legal to reverse the transaction. I was also told that I need to make contact with the merchant(Ss-Legal) with my own airtime and free time and ask them to unblock FNB so that they can do the reversal. I lost my ****. after all the running back and forth to the bank, and no one, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, was able to tell me this. I had told the consultant on the phone that how can I as the customer contact the merchant when the merchant does not even exist as there are no contact numbers for this company. I ended up crying in the bank because i was fed up with FNB and giving me the run around. I ended up phoning my mother in the bank and she told me to put her on the phone with the nearest consultant. the consultant had then given the phone to the branch manager and after the earfull my mother had given him, he had told the consultant to get me to fill out a ***** form which they had told me would be sent to the ***** department and it would be taken from there. i then returned to durban after my exams and still had received no contact from FNB regarding this. my mom and i decided to go into our local branch which is in the galleria mall based in Amanzimtoti. on the 02/12/19, i got a notification stating that R175 was taken from account again. we went to the bank to sort out both because STILL nothing had been done about the first one. after filing a complaint on the FNB online banking site, we still had received no response. we then went in again and my mother who has signing powers on my account had spoken to a consultant on the phone. giving the consultant another earfull, he then had told her that he would escalate matters and that I would receive a call some time. i then received a phone call on the 06/12/19 from a consultant by the name of Tevin regarding this issue telling me that they have been working on my problem and that i should see the money of R350(175+175) reflect in my account within the next 24-48 working hours. it had been over a week and still nothing had reflected in my account. i then contacted tevin again and he had no changed his story saying that the matter would be "escalated" within the next 24-48 working hours. He then told me that the matter had not been esclated and that he would look into it and contact me. I then received a call from him on the 19/12/19 telling me that FNB has been blocked from reversing the transactions and that I need to contact the merchant to ask them to unblock FNB so that the reversal can be done. TELL ME SOMETHING I HAVEN'T BEEN TOLD BEFORE. i told him like i told the other *********** FNB consultants that how can I contact a merchant that does not even exist! He then sent me a form that I need to fill out regarding this ********** transaction and that I need to get an affidavit from the police station stating that this was a ********** transaction and that once I get that document, I need to email it to him for the matter to be escalated. I am absolutely DISGUSTED at FNB and the lack of the care and interest they have for my issue in simply giving me back my R350 that was wrongfully taken from my account. I hope the next person thinks twice before choosing FNB as their bank. I JUST WANT MY MONEY BACK.
