FNB King William's Town
I am extremely disappointed with FNB in King William's Town. My mom who recently celebrated her 65 years of age went to fnb in King William's Town to enquire what she needed to bring along in order for her to be able to open a more bank account. I told her to go open an account at fnb branch because I, as her son working in Johannesburg also bank with FNB and it will be easy for me to do transfers etc and recommended fnb to my mom. First time she went to fnb, lady at enquiries tells her to bring a letter from the community leader, that's fine, she arranges that. Today the 3rd April 2019, she goes back to the branch and finds a gentleman that made a mockery of my mother. This gentleman tells my mom, she can't open an account because she's unemployed. That was the first time I hear such. I then insisted to my mom that she goes back and let me talk to that particular gentleman at front desk because I never heard such nonsense. My mother dials my number and I could here the person talking to my mom saying, is your son your employer? I won't talk to him, I'm telling you we will not open an account if you are unemployed, this was said in xhosa. He totally refused to talk to me and found him very abusive to be talking to my mom in that tone. I was mad and wished I could fly to King William's Town. I then googled fnb contact number and dialed some 087 number and spoke to Jonathan who told me I can't phone a branch because they were not taking calls as I wanted to speak to a manager at a branch concerned. He then gave me a number where my mom can be phoned by a consultant and a bank account can be opened over the phone and my mom could just collect the card. On this number ********** I spoke to Amanda Bhengu. She is my hero for days...after explaining what was happening to my mom, she immediately phoned my mom after few minutes, and mom went inside the bank and collected her bank card of an easy account. Amanda Bhengu even phoned me back to ensure that I was ok and that she had spoken to my mother already and everything was done. She phoned me back because I was extremely mad thinking that my mother travels a long distance to get to town and be told such *******. After my mother arrives arrives home, she then gives me a full report of what this gentleman was saying to her. This particular guy went as far as telling my mother that she must go try capitec or any other bank but at fnb, they don't open accounts for the unemployed.
I am sweating here thinking, how many people has this gentleman turned away? Old and uneducated clients don't ask questions and believe people over those counters or officials from bank would be telling them the right information. How can FNB put someone like that at front desk, this is the guy that seem to have been relieving the lady that my mother spoke to when she first went to enquire about what documentation would be needed when she needs to open an account. I am angry at hes arrogance and thinking this is how our uneducated parents, relatives are treated by some bank officials...
I am really disappointed at how this particular employee would be so rude to a 65 year old woman, the tone, rudeness I was shocked, I could hear everything he was saying, since I was born, I have never ever spoken to my mother in that manner. Fact that someone who is supposed to be helpful to all those old and uneducated potential clients in King William's Town, is rather treating them in this horrible manner. I am very very disappointed that such official wouldn't know that any person employed or unemployed can have a bank account. My mother doesn't even know a cheque account, she would not even ask for a cheque account. That's what Jonathan firstly assumed my mother probably wanted a cheque account which I *******ed totally.
FNB King William's Town, this is not over and it will not be over until my mother gets an apology from that unknown gentleman. Unfortunately I do not have the name of the gentlemen but my mother is prepared to go back point that gentlemen out.
You have employed someone's who keeps referring clients to capitec and other banks. How many people he has told such nonsense, how many..?
