FNB Islamic Private vehicle finance
Firstly, it took me 4 days to get myself to write this review as I’ve experienced immense inconvenience which I needed to process. I completed an online Islamic vehicle finance application and was approved immediately. At the time of the application it was for dealership finance which soon changed to private vehicle finance as the vehicle I wanted at the dealer was sold. After being assigned a Marketer (Gavin Harris) from the Islamic finance private vehicle department, all hell broke loose. I was firstly given a base rate of 12.49% which is much higher than the 11.75% depicted on their website, I then queried this rate as I currently have an Islamic home loan with good standing. After querying the rate with mumtaz Patel from the dealer finance side, she agreed a rate reduction of 11.25% with her counterparts in the private finance side, at this point I had a seller on the line with not much time to spare. I was then thrown from pillar to post on the rate with Gavin saying I cannot get that rate and that he could reduce it to 11.75% which is standard base rate ( now at this stage, I could not leverage off any further bargaining power as the seller was on the line with other buyers waiting for the vehicle) I then agreed to the rate with much hesitation considering the reduced rate Mumtaz discussed with them (red flag number 1). Shortly after accepting the higher than verbally agreed rate, Gavin reached out to the seller with qualifying questions, of which at this point he should have immediately picked up on any red flag with the vehicle had he known how to conduct due diligence as part of his “tick box” excercise job. The seller clearly stated it was an auction vehicle, and despite this, Gavin proceeded with the process giving both the seller and myself the impression that all was well with the deal. Fast forward, post all documents received, we were now at the stage of the contract signing of which Gavin took me through the details, and both myself and seller signed. I was then informed by Gavin to take out insurance on the vehicle effective immediately and to sign a document that confirmed I received the vehicle. Now at this stage red flag number two is imminent as I was not comfortable signing receipt of delivery of a vehicle I did not have nor did the seller have his money. But I proceeded anyway as Gavin said the deal could not proceed. I also took out insurance and paid my first two months instalments considering it happened over a month end period and I was pro- rated for the part of th previous month. Now bear in mind I have insurance on a vehicle not in my possession. I then get asked by Gavin to send him proof that my deposit amount has been paid directly to the seller, which I did. Now at this stage in the process all that was left was FNB to make payment and I collect my vehicle, albeit the backward process my marketer followed. I then get a call from the marketer that they cannot proceed with the deal as the vehicle was bought from a salvage auction ( bear in mind this was not picked up by him in the early stages, nor was I aware that we could not buy from one) now at this point in time, the very frustrated seller has my deposit with him, and also I have insurance taken out on a vehicle that was not in my possession. I am now struggling to get my deposit from the seller despite me offering him R1000 cash for his inconvenience. I have been greatly inconvenienced by this process and being a home owner with FNB I am honestly considering taking my business elsewhere. Who is going to compensate me for two months insurance instalments, and my deposit sitting with a seller hesitant to return my funds, never mind the countless hours of inconvenience spent on this process in haste of sealing a deal. I am terribly disappointed and I expect FNB to deal with this situation very strongly
