FNB is not the best employer

My brother Reanetsi Christopher Lethetsa who used to work at the FNB Contact Centre in Randburg reporting to Abdullah Adams passed away. Upon claiming for some of his stuff (Provident fund, retirement annuity) assisted by Naome Phalali and Ntimo Snyman I was told that there is a claim that needs to be sent to “Risk” said to be an accident cover of some sort. I sent the required documents through in September 2019 if not before, except for the Post Mortem report of which I was still waiting to receive from Forensic Pathology. I then later received the Post mortem report in January 2020 which was said to be the ONLY outstanding document and submitted it to Ntimo Snyman immediately on the 24th January 2020.

Getting information and updates regarding this claim is nothing but a nightmare. I don’t know what the claim is for? How much it is or rather a general explanation of the process. When I call FNB HR people (Naome Phalali and Ntimo Snyman) they tell me they don’t know anything about this claim and they don’t have any information about this “benefit” the only thing they do is submit documents to the Risk department. When I call the Risk Department (Valanchia van Wyk) she tells me she is not allowed to speak to third party persons I must speak to HR they should give me info regarding the claim. I am basically being taken from pillar to post.

We do not receive any updates or whatsoever from FNB HR unless I call or send an email of which I sometimes to not receive response. The contents of the post moterm report refer to Annexures that accompany the doctor’s explanations in the report, we are now required to submit those pictures. Those pictures are highly sensitive pictures of the deceased’s body being performed the post moterm procedure. Am I really expected to go through the torture of going to the police and asking them for pictures of my dead brother's body? After this, am I going to be requested to take a dead decayed body to FNB? This is rather becoming traumatic.

FNB is a very disappointing employer. From the day I alerted them that my brother was involved in a car accident and is at the hospital. No one bothered to even find out if he was doing okay or not. When he passed away I still told them, no one bothered to call or communicate to the family as to what the procedure is in terms of what needs to be claimed. We buried him and only after burial we were told that he is part of the SASBO union and needs to be claimed.I have record of all mail trails of the above issue.
