FNB is actively preventing me from securing housing while I am PAYING them every month

I am posting this as a brand new complaint because the situation has now escalated beyond frustration. It is materially affecting my life, my housing security, and my personal circumstances.

FNB previously closed my complaint stating there was “no wrongdoing” in how they report my credit card repayment arrangement. Since that closure, I have now had yet another rental application declined. The TPN credit report provided by the rental agency clearly shows the same issue I have been raising for months: the way FNB structures and reports this repayment arrangement creates a severely distorted and high-risk profile to third parties.

I am not in default. I am paying every month under the agreed repayment arrangement. I approached FNB proactively when I experienced financial strain and asked for assistance, including consolidation options, specifically to stabilise my position and avoid default. Instead of being helped toward recovery, I am now being systemically blocked from securing housing because of how FNB chooses to report this account.

At no point was I informed that entering into this repayment arrangement would effectively lock my credit profile in a way that:

prevents rental approvals,

blocks refinancing or consolidation elsewhere,

and materially restricts my financial mobility.

Nothing in the agreement discloses these consequences. Nothing was explained. The agreement was simply sent to me to sign.

This is not a favour being done for me. FNB is being paid for a regulated financial service under a contractual agreement. Yet the bank continues to apply internal policies that are causing real and ongoing prejudice, while taking no accountability for the external consequences.

This situation is now impacting not just my ability to rent, but my personal life and stability. Being denied housing while meeting my repayment obligations is unacceptable and unsustainable.

The matter has now been formally escalated to the National Credit Regulator. I will be providing them with all documentation, including the most recent rental rejection and credit assessment showing the direct impact of FNB’s reporting practices.

FNB cannot continue to claim there is “no wrongdoing” while measurable harm continues. This needs to be addressed urgently and at the appropriate level.
