FNB Insurance - Extremely Poor Service & Cover

I am of the view that FNB Insurance is possibly the worst insurance that I have had experience with. All is good when paying your insurance premiums monthly – but heaven forbid you try to make a claim. The policy has so many exclusions and fine print terms & conditions, that it seems to give them free reign to reject nearly any and all claims. My recent interaction was a pool filter that cracked (it was operating for more than 3 years and I regularly backwash and rinse) and they claimed the following in rejecting the claim: 1. They claimed it was a Manufacturing Defect and hence it is excluded from cover. I then went and contacted the Manufacturer and shared the finding, which they rejected and provided tangible and justifiable information why it wasn’t a manufacturing defect. I took this back to FNB Insurance, and then they changed the reason for rejection to: 2. It MAY have been that the filter lid was overtightened and that caused failure and hence it is excluded from cover. What is most disturbing is that I have found that FNB Insurance will find reasons to exclude / repudiate a claim – and failing the reason they gave originally, when then find the next reason in order to prevent payout. I have also found that the fine print excludes a number of commonly covered items which most other insurance underwriters include. As an example – if a leak occurs on / at a geyser, but its not that the geyser has burst then they exclude certain repairs with the caveat that they do not pay for materials / components etc. similarly if the element stops working they give the same reason for exclusion of said full repairs etc. I had previously not found this behaviour with other Insurance companies, and with my experience with FNB Insurance I would advise any and all clients to find an alternative insurance provider BEFORE you have an incident that requires you to institute a claim with them.
