FNB incorrectly advised on Fees

My wife received those annoying calls from FNB to open a credit card. We discussed it and thought it would be a good idea to boost her credit rating as we want to buy a property.

We went into the branch and the application was approved. We asked how does the delivery of the card work, and the consultant said it can be delivered to the branch or via courier. We requested the ‘free’ option which the consultant pointed out is delivery to the branch. We accepted the free offer.

Monday we collected the card. Yesterday, my wife noted a ‘delivery fee’ of R100 deducted from her account.

Today we went into the branch, where their tune changed. The delivery fee of R100 is when you collect at the branch and the courier option is free.

We dispute this as we were informed the option to the branch is free. The branch say they can’t assist in reversing the query as it is a credit card.

Now we are on our own. Banks lure you in by offering you products where the fees are incorrectly explained to you.

The R100 is nothing, it is all about principal.
