FNB incompetence or dishonesty?

When my kids were small, I opened a savings account for each child with FNB and put in money whenever I could. These two accounts were open for some time and accumulated funds, but after minimal activity over a long period the bank closed it. There were funds (a couple thousand) in each account. I had no clue it was closed, nor how much funds were in there as I kind of lost track of it and forgot about it. I received no communication from the bank. A number of years later, I tried to start saving for them again, but discovered these accounts were closed, so I opened new ones, and I diligently save for my kids every single month. Now, whilst updating the details for these two present savings accounts, the consultant happened to stumble over the fact that there is dormant funds for each of my children. I was quite happy and also disturbed at the same time, as FNB made no attempt in 10 years to advise me of this money sitting there. My details are on their system, I have a business account, a savings account of my own as well as an account for each my kids with them! Nevertheless....I put in a claim and was told it would take 21 working days for the funds from these old accounts to be transferred to my children's present accounts. Two months have passed and not a word. I've called twice, BOTH times the line was cut whilst talking to their consultants! What kind of an unprofessional organization is this? First my money is tucked away somewhere and no communication in this regard is given to me. 10 years later I find out about it and then, again, no communication, you are just told to wait endlessly! I don't know if they're just ***********, or do they just not want to give us what is rightfully ours?!!

This nightmare is continuing. People please be careful with this bank! What is happening now is theft. Since I published this review I have been getting calls from a very helpful lady at FNB N1 City named Sarah, where my children's accounts were opened. She calls every now and again to keep me informed on the matter. Initially I was told all is sorted and payment will be made soon. Then I was told the whole delay was because one signature was unclear on the claim form. Then I was told that my daughter's would be paid, but theres a problem with my son's claim. Most recently I was told they can't pay me because these amounts were already claimed and paid out in some bank in the Free State. I live in Cape Town and have never even been to the Free State!!! FNB closed my children's accounts and took the money that was in there...thousands!!! Now so many years later they are coming with stories and not want to pay our money?? Legally I have a right to claim for this money and any interest for the last umpteen years!!! If my money is not paid I WILL lodge a complaint with the banking ombud, and I will publicize the way I have been handled on every social media platform possible! I have had enough, this has been going on too long now, and we just want what is rightfully ours and should have been paid put a long time ago!!

Since I posted here 6 days ago, I have not heard a peep from FNB. Even the sweet, helpful Sarah at FNB N1 CITY branch who used to call me every second day with some or other feedback has completely stopped. This means they have taken our money that was in my children's accounts, and are not planning to return it. I can't explain how ill this makes me feel. We entrust banks to keep our monies safe, and you never in a million years expect them to be the *******. They closed my children's accounts years ago, and now the money that was in there has vanished and FNB is not even ATTEMPTING to make it right and return our funds to us rightfully. I want an answer FNB. You cannot be allowed to take what isn't yours.
