FNB INCOMPETANCE UPDATE
Back Ground and Update: Good afternoon, I just want to make an enquiry regarding closure of an account at FNB. I have been with Capitec since end of 2016. On the 10th of June 2017 I have paid the Credit Card and my debt at FNB in full at the branch at President Hyper Building in Krugersdorp. It took another 9 months to receive a confirmation that the Credit Card account is closed. That day I have asked the teller on duty to close all my accounts at FNB. I have received last week a call from your Collection department to inform me I owe R2 570.00 to FNB, when I asked her what it is for, she said she doesn’t know I must go to a branch and ask them. Which I did on Saturday 17th of August. The lady told me it is the Overdraft account, interest on interest for another 2 years!!!!!! My questions are: Is there anybody managing the accounts? If they could trace me now, why didn’t they contact me sooner? At least 3 months after I have paid up the account. Why leave the account open and not close it as I have requested? Why leave it to accumulate for more than 2 years. You should send your customers on a course to know how to close an account with your bank. I am 61 years old and trying my best to get out of debt before I go on pension but I give up……… I am very, very disappointed in the management of FNB and going to report this case to the National Credit Regulator.I recently wrote a review about the incompetence of FNB to provide professional assistance on a matter that concerns account that we requested to close in 2016. I received a call from FNB that we own them money, we ask her for what, she rep**** she don’t know we must go to a branch and they will tell us, we did go to the President Hyper branch in Krugersdorp and the consultant informed us that it is interest upon interest. The bank only reacts when you report them. In 2015 we walk past FNB in Clearwater mall and was approach by FNB staff to listen to the special offer on a Cell phone that was on promotion for gold card holders only, they convinced us that it is a good deal and received a phone. I unfortunately damage the phone to such an extent that it cannot be repaired, and approach the bank and ask them what I must do to get it replaced; they sent me to a company which informed us that they don’t deal with Fnb anymore. This was the beginning of a long struggle paying for a phone that we can’t use, nobody at the bank was able to assist us, a visit to Clearwater and meeting with branch manager and even to FNB head office was fruitless, now paying about six instalments on the phone that I cannot use. I report the incident to “TOT U DIENS” Beeld news paper and they published my complaint, that stirred enough and caught FNB s attention and they apologised and offered a deferent phone. That was the reason in 2016 that we decided to settle all outstanding with FNB and move business to Capitec ( the best bank in South Africa, real professionals,) not one single complain in the two and a half years banking with them. Now once again to get FNB attention we approach Hello Peter for assistance and the bank immediately response. This time eventually informed by the bank why we own them money and that was not what consultant at the branch told us. The bank informed us that the account was not closed and for two and a half years the draw on the overdraft to pay for the cell phone, and now we own R2500 plus R4000 something for a cell phone supplier which we don’t know; apparently the bank and this company had some arrangement with the bank. We where under the impression that, it is a handset from FNB because it had FNB logos all over and a FNB sim card. The amount that we now own is R5500 for a phone that can only use a FNB sim card and is useless to us; the hand set is also about four years old. Why waiting two and a half years to contact us, and without email or phone call they handed me over to the lawyers; they use an overdraft facility on account that we where under the impression was closed and no money was deposits into that for two and a half years. We still have an account with WESTBANK where we pay off our car, and a funeral policy from FNB, they could phone us or contact us at any time. Try and contact the lawyers is a mission impossible for about five minutes all you hear press this button for that person or that person. WHAT A DISEPOINTMENT THIS FNB TURNS OUT TO BE. To think how many other people sit with the same problem, we are bul**** and stand no chance against them, hope someone will learn from our experience
