FNB How can we AVOID helping you?
FNB - "How can we AVOID helping you" My father passed away on 26 September 2023. My brother and I are the appointed executors of his estate, our 89 year old mother being the sole beneficiary. My fathers estate included a substantial policy from Sanlam. I completed all the required forms in order for Sanlam to pay the proceeds to our mother. Sanlam informed me that they were unable to complete the process due to there being a cession over the policy in favor of FNB, held since 1984. Sanlam informed me that they had written to FNB, in order to discover if the cession was still in effect, alternatively to lift the cession. Sanlam informs me that for the past 9 months they cannot get FNB to respond to whether the cession is still in force. When I contacted FNB, they told me by email that they can discover no record of any cession held by them over my fathers Sanlam policy. They have now requested me, and by extension my 89 year old mother to engage with Sanlam to provide them with the details of the cession they apparently hold! FNB have provided no evidence whatsoever that they have approached Sanlam directly. Instead they display the ugly side of the banking industry by fobbing off an 89 year old widower, who has no powers whatsoever to resolve the matter on her own. FNB, you ought to be ashamed of the way in which you have wilfully prevented my mother receiving her rightful inheritance. Between yourselves and Sanlam, you should have resolved this in October 2023, but here we are in late July 2024, and the only "help" FNB can offer is " You're on your own widower Visser - we're in the business of making money, not helping 89 year old's".
