FNB Home Loans simply IGNORE rent income

My partner and I are trying to purchase a home for our family and app**** to FNB Home Loans as FNB is my partners favoured bank.
After completing the laborious task of applying, we have received feedback that we have been declined.
Naturally we ask why, and the answer given is that, because the rental income is received into my Standard Bank account, it will not be taken into account as income. Therefore the existing bond on my investment property is listed as an expense on its own as the income is \ignored\".
What kind of a policy is that???! Doesn't Home Loans check the Bond statement to ensure the account is up to date?
I am utterly shocked at such a disgraceful policy. FNBs slogan is How can we help you? What a steaming pile..."
