FNB Home Loans Department - don't even bother

I do not have any issues specifically with FNB's private banking services. I could rate this a 4/5. My personal banker is also quite responsive and helpful.

My personal experience:

My issue and review is specifically for the home loans department. I attempted to apply for a home loan through my own bank - FNB. The consultant who helped me, if I recall, his name is Damian.

My bank declined me as they consider me medium/ high risk. The reason why is due to an incorrect credit entry on my credit record from a year ago with the incorrect credit history, indicating I never paid them on a monthly-basis, but this is besides the point as I have all the records which indicate the latter. I am currently logging a case with the credit ombudsman. Due to this old account and the dispute on my record, they point blank refused me, mind you, I have always kept my other accounts up-to-date, surely they could see this from my statements etc. In any case, this gentleman was not helpful at all, refused to consider my application... Good news, I have been offered a home loan by 3 other reputable banks with good interest rates. They never once brought up this old account.

I am actually considering move banks as this process with home loans department has left a sour taste in my mouth. Luckily, most of my investments are in any case not with FNB, only my day-to-day banking.

My advice to others, don't even bother with a bank who does not even care about assisting their OWN clients. From my experience and some of the others I know - home loans department is not customer-centric at all, not sure what their criteria is that they use to decline or accept. I would really like to know.
