FNB home insurance poor, pathetic and premeditated.

I am writing this as a warning to anyone trusting FNB with their assets. I have been an FNB client since birth. I have supported this bank with my entire financial portfolio—Home Loans, Banking, and Insurance. I trusted them to protect my home, yet that loyalty has been met with absolute contempt and bad faith.

I lodged a claim for storm damages on the 9th of December. It took nearly two months of me constantly chasing the call center just to get feedback today. There was zero proactive communication; I had to fight just to be told I was being rejected.

The way they have handled this claim (Loss Event: RNM47801, ***/00) is completely premeditated to avoid payout. On a previous occasion, they blamed "lack of maintenance." Now, for this claim, they have shifted their story to claim the aluminum sliding door was "not sealed correctly by installers," causing water to seep under the floor. It is clear they send assessors not to evaluate damage fairly, but to hunt for any technicality—maintenance, installers, policy wording—to escape liability.

They were happy to collect my premiums for years, but now that I am sitting with a R90,000 repair bill that I’ve had to pay out of my own pocket, they are nowhere to be found.

Dealing with the claims department, specifically Mpho Barret, has been an exercise in frustration. If you want an insurer that looks for loopholes while you foot the bill for storm damage, choose FNB. If you want actual cover, go anywhere else.
