FNB has gone from best to worst
This is a banking experience that I don't think anyone could make up. I attempted to move money from my 7-day account into my current account, but I constantly got errors saying that my limit was exceeded. I checked my limits. They were fine but I raised them anyway. Yet I still go the same error. As I was travelling abroad I resorted to emails and phonically, rather than visit the branch. The amount of effort it took me to get a reply from someone is outrageous. And when I did get a reply and I explained my problem I would get passed onto to someone else (internet banking) who would then not reply. Anyway, i must have sent 10 emails and called 5 times and I was getting nowhere. Eventually I solved the problem and realised that what was really happening is that the bank's internet banking system was not recognising my laptop device but...and here is the stupid issue...instead of giving an error message that explains this, it was misleading me and everyone else at the bank who bothered to look into the issue by claiming I had exceeded my limit, a completely false error that should be eradicated from the system in cases where the bank's IT cannot verify a device or is connected to an unverified device. And there is another dissapointment....whilst the above was being fixed finally - thanks to Karobo, a consultant in internet banking who appears to be the only switched on guy I could reach and who really understood the underlying problem, I was lucky enough to find someone at the branch (via email) to manually do the transfer, Zenda Grobler. She kindly responded in a timely fashion and apologised, stating there were technical issues that week. However after doing the transfer, I noticed on my statement a month later (probably not even to Zenda's knowledge) a charge of 70 Rand. The statement did not explain what this "service fee" was. This is the first time that I have seen a non routine /non standard charge on any bank statement with no explanation whatsoever. I asked Zenda what it was (since she usually replies to emails unlike the "super service" department that claims to reply within 48 hours and in fact ignores your emails indefinitely. Zenda discovered it was a fee for her manual transfer when the internet banking was giving me those faulty errors. She was kind enough to request the reversal and I think her for that but - and this is directed towards FNB not Zenda personally - I need to know if this bank is every going to pull its socks up. I joined it in 2013 because I was told by a big businessman that it is the best business bank in S Africa.....the same business man wrote this to me now:
"Yup, sadly FNB has really let things slip. We’ve laid official complaints against our business manager with FNB and nothing’s changed."
