FNB FIXED DEPOSIT

I would like to share my experience with FNB after applying to open a Fixed Deposit account for a 2-year period. I approached FNB Rand Ridge Mall branch on Wednesday, August 21, to apply for the account and negotiate a rate. We agreed on the interest rate for a 2-year period, and an account was opened. When I was asked where the funds came from, I told them it was from my personal Standard Bank account. I was advised that it was fine if I made the payment late on Wednesday, as it should hit their account at the very latest by Friday August 23. Upon returning home, I received a call from the branch asking me to come back because they had made an error—the account opened was not at the agreed rate. I returned immediately and was given a form to sign, confirming a new fixed deposit account number which was loaded to my FNB App. I confirmed that I would make the payment on the same day from my Standard Bank account, which was done. On Friday, August 23, I checked to see if the funds had reflected, but they had not. I visited the branch again to find out the issue was and was advised the funds had been rejected with no explanation. I called the FNB online service and was advised that the funds should have been processed on the same day and reflected in the account. This was not communicated by the branch when I opened the account. My consultant at the branch has been helpful in trying to resolve this issue and advised me on Friday, August 23, the funds would be processed and reflect in the new Fixed Deposit account by the following day, Saturday 24th. On Saturday when nothing reflected, I was told that the funds were rejected a second time and that the refund would be done into my FNB business account the same day. We asked the consultant if another Fixed Deposit account could be opened and seeing that the funds are with FNB could then be transferred immediately. I was told this was not possible. I agreed to the transfer being made to my business account just to be able to get my money back. I don’t like mixing business and personal banking. Paying it back into my business account is problematic, as I now need to apply to the bank again to increase my EAP limit to transfer the funds back to my Standard Bank account. By the time the funds reflect back in Standard Bank, I would have lost almost a week’s worth of interest. I asked the consultant on Saturday August 24 if I would be compensated for the interest lost and he was unsure. This issue has caused me unnecessary stress, and I regret ever approaching FNB to open this account. I would think they would value one’s business, but that does not seem to be the case. I should have stayed with the current banks I deal with.
