FNB Failed Me During Bond Registration ***** – R17,794 Lost Due to Incompetence
I am extremely disappointed in FNB and the way my ***** case has been handled.
During my bond registration process, I was instructed to make payment for registration costs to the attorneys handling my bond. These attorneys were allocated as part of the bond process approved by FNB. I made an EFT payment of R17,794 using my FNB app.
The payment was “investigated” for an hour and then released by FNB. A month later, I was informed that the attorneys never received the money because their email had been hacked and the *****sters provided a different bank account.
What is shocking to me is that:
The account number did not match the attorney’s name
The account was not even with the attorney’s usual bank
This was a large bond-related transaction
The attorneys were part of a process approved by FNB
Yet FNB still allowed the payment to go through.
As a bank, FNB has a responsibility to protect clients against ***** — especially when there are clear red flags. How can a bank fail to pick up that the recipient name and account do not match? How can they release such a payment without proper verification?
Since reporting the *****, I have received poor communication, no urgency, and no accountability. I have had to chase FNB constantly for updates with no meaningful feedback.
After my hello peter review on the 19th of December, Fnb promised i'll get a feedback within 5 days, but to my shock i got a losy excuse email form Kagiso Mothei who is handling my ***** case stating that they are still waiting for the feedback from STD bank of which i feel like no effort is being done. Ever since she has been ignoring my emails again.
FNB has completely failed me as a client. I trusted the bank with one of the biggest financial transactions of my life, and they did not protect me.
I would not recommend FNB to anyone dealing with bond transactions or large payments.
