FNB - EVERYTHING BUT BANKING
Every single month there is some kind of problem with FNB and their payments system. "This service is temporarily unavailable". Whether it's airtime or FOREX or just basic salary payments to my staff, the experience is the same - endless errors, technical issues, and "maintenance". I am frequently unable to do what I need to do to run my company due to FNB's endless issues. I wish they would do what they are supposed to do which is to BE A BANK and stop doing everything but banking. To make things worse, you need to go through numerous robots in their call centre before you eventually reach the correct person. It is highly frustrating. You will end up wasting 20 min just to reach the right department (that is if you ever reach it). I have also had terrible experiences with their private banking division which really is a joke as well. Their private bankers do NOT offer any kind of personalized service whatsoever and it is nothing like that of other banks like Standard Bank. The only time I ever heard from my banker was when she plagued me with forms to fill in to explain why I am getting paid so much. What business is it of yours? You are just a bank, know your place! Standard bank has NEVER had the cheek to ask me what I do, and why I earn so much and threaten to lock my account if I don't respond in 48 hours. Add to all that their USELESS support for customers who frequently travel abroad and their inability to process most transactions in hotels in the US (which is what happened to me numerous times). My cheque, credit, and debit cards did not work at all in the hotels despite being activated for travel to the states, and when I tried to get hold of someone to help me, no one could help me because that department does not operate outside of office hours. Meanwhile, my STD bank card works fine everywhere. So if you are looking for a bank that is reliable and that does what it should - BANK - then keep looking. If you are looking for a house, a car, a Udemy subscription, and a Starbucks voucher, then this is the bank for you.
Also forgot to add above: Every year I have to transfer money to my Standard Bank account to make international payments to our software providers because FNB does not allow large amounts to be paid abroad. I mean what? R80,000 is not even that much. I am sure major companies are paying much more than that.
