FNB – enough with the unexplained additional charges
I am becoming increasingly frustrated with the ever-growing list of small charges being deducted from my FNB account.
I already pay approximately R125 per month in bank account fees, yet I continue to see additional charges of R2, R7.50 and other amounts for various services.
Most recently, I noticed a R7.50 charge labelled “ONLINE PAYMENT HISTORY.” I did not request an online payment history, old statements, or any such service. So why am I being charged for it?
This is exactly the problem: individually, R2 or R7.50 may not seem like much, but when these charges keep appearing, they add up. Customers shouldn't have to constantly scrutinise their accounts to make sure they haven't been charged for something they never requested.
There is also the issue of online payments. When I previously paid approximately R115 per month in account fees, online payments to other banks were included. Now I am being charged an additional R2 every time I make an online payment to another bank.
So the monthly account fee has increased, while services that were previously included are now being charged separately.
At what point does this become excessive?
I would like FNB to explain:
• What exactly the R7.50 “ONLINE PAYMENT HISTORY” charge is for. • When and how I requested this service. • Why I was charged for something I did not request. • Why online payments to other banks are now charged separately. • What other additional fees I should expect on top of my monthly account fee.
I have no issue paying reasonable fees for services I knowingly use. What I object to is being charged small amounts for services I did not request and having previously included services turned into additional charges.
FNB, please review these charges and provide a proper explanation — and refund the R7.50 charge if there was no request from my side.
Customers should not have to play detective every month to figure out what they are being charged for.
