FNB does not respect persons with disabilities!

I am hearing impaired and can only communicate via sign language or written communication (such as email).

I took a temporary loan in March/April with FNB and then was unexpectedly retrenched which left me with trying to make a payment arrangement for this loan .

16 May I sent an email requesting a payment arrangement and a proposal of how I could pay (this is after being told I could not resolve this matter at a branch because they didn't deal with this) and I received an answer on 18 May from that department requesting when the payment would commence, which I answered.

22 I received a further email telling me to contact the Temporary Loan department telephonically as this was the only way they assisted. I responded and asked for an alternative communication method (writing) as I was hearing impaired and could not phone and since the account is in my name, no one else can phone on my behalf.

24 May I got an email again asking me when the payment arrangement would commence; I answered them again and got an email similar to the first telling me I had to phone the call centre for assistance.

26 May I sent an email to a client consultant asking her to please forward this query to someone who could assist with the necessary sensitivity to my situation - received no response.

Next thing I get notification that this account has been handed over to attorneys for collection!

1 June I emailed all the details of my predicament to the complaints department at FNB and despite following up, have yet to receive any feedback from them.

I am sorely disappointed in FNB for not being willing to accommodate persons with disabilities and show respect for basic human dignity. All I am asking for is to make an arrangement in writing rather than over the telephone and NOBODY seems to be bothered to think further about how this can be done or perhaps they feel that as a bank there is no need to assist in empowering disabled persons to function indepently.

I expected more from my bank.
