FNB DISGRACEFUL - Should be ashamed - Customers not treated as assets?!!?

On 30 January 2017 my card was ****** from an FNB ATM in Rink Street Port Elizabeth by 2 brazen ******* and within a short space of time, the account was cleared leaving me with a paltry R7.00 at month end!!

First off, I had asked a colleague of a very long standing to draw R120-00 from my account. The colleague had for +-12 to 15 years done banking on my behalf and during the period 12 to 15 years been responsible for the company banking often depositing large sums of cash on behalf of the business, without there ever being an incident. We had worked together for 15 years and had become close friends. To reiterate, he is as honest as the day is long. So against this background, my colleague approached an FNB ATM in Rink Street at approx 12h25 on 30 January. The CCTV footage reveals that an African man, (***** number 1), was busy at the ATM when my colleagues arrived and took up a position at a respectable distance behind ***** no 1. ***** 1 almost immediately steps back allowing my colleague access to the ATM. My colleague can be seen inserting the card and begins transacting while ***** no 1 takes up a position +-1 to 1,5m behind, facing my colleague. ***** no 2 can be seen loitering around approx 5 to 6 away. At the time of my colleague inserting the PIN number ***** 1 is 1 to 1,5m behind my colleague. Much to the surprise of my colleague he is prompted by a message on the ATM to insert his ID number or cell phone number. Confused my colleague immediately cancels the transaction at which point ***** no 1 comes forward and starts pressing buttons. (NO PROTECTION or CARE by FNB). Hazarding a guess, it is at this point that the card is ****** and ***** no 1 briskly leaves the scene heading down Rink Street for a taxi. ***** no 2 enters the fray and strikes up a conversation with my colleague who is desperately trying to extricate the card from the machine oblivious to the fact that it is in all likelihood in the hands of ***** no 1. Moments later ***** no 2 hastily departs the scene in direction of taxi.

At +-12h30 or thereabouts I receive an sms notification from FNB apologising for the inconvenience, (ATM malfunction), and urges me to try another ATM, (or words to that effect)? Between 12h34 and 12h37 I received the first in a series of sms notifications indicating that 3 amounts totalling R8000-00 had been withdrawn from my account. I phoned my colleague to find out what was going on and he told me that the card had swallowed the machine?!!? I then proceeded to phone the FNB ***** line at 12h46 to cancel my card. I HELD ON FOR CLOSE ON 51 MINUTES BEFORE EVENTUALLY RECEIVING A CALL FROM FNB in which a tape recorded message / voice advised me that irregular activity had taken place with my account. I was prompted to press 2 if I was not in agreement with the írregular' activity and it was ONLY THEN that I was able to talk to an FNB employee, +-51 OR SO MINUTES LATER!!!! In the interim further transactions took place leaving the paltry sum of R7-00 in my account. One of the transactions, R7000-00 in favour of Jeya's Corner Tavern in New Brighton was a reserved purchase which and when eventually talking to an FNB employee I asked for the purchase to be reversed!! I was told that as soon as I submit a ***** Claim form the reserved purchase would / could be reversed???

I have since lodged numerous claims and complaints with FNB and suffice to say, continue to bump my head. Their reason for not taking any responsibility is due to me having given my card and PIN to another person and whilst this might well be so, there is NIL response from FNB as to PROTECTION for their clients!! Their is no security guard at the Rink Street ATM nor is there a demarcation line preventing would be ******* from shoulder surfing nor is there a sign warning ATM users of fact that this is a card swapping hot spot??? SO FAR, NIL RESPONSE FROM FNB???

Once in the taxi, card in tow, the 2 ******* set off for a shopping centre situated about a km and a half away from the FNB ATM in Rink Street. When looking at the CCTV footage from the shopping centre, it is perhaps ironical and / or strange that the 2 *******, (now running), by pass 3 ATMS and make a beeline for another FNB ATM which is situated inside a shop in the shopping centre about 40 to 50 meters further that the 3 other ATM's???

More importantly, HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE 2 ******* WERE ABLE TO WITHDRAW R8000-00 from an FNB ATM when I have or had a daily limit in place? THUS FAR NIL RESPONSE FROM FNB on THIS ISSUE?

Lastly and when going back to the CCTV Footage filmed from above the Rink Street ATM, it appears impossible that the ******* gained visual access to the PIN number meaning that there had to have been some form of device on the ATM or when taking all factors into account, was it not an inside job? I have asked FNB in writing for the CCTV footage from their Rink Street ATM but to no avail - does this suggest that FNB have something to hide?

What about the comment from an FNB employee re the reversing of the R7000-00 reserved purchase in favour of Jeya's Corner once I had submitted the FNB ***** Claim form??? THUS FAR NIL RESPONSE FROM FNB AND, THE RESERVED PURCHASE WAS NEVER REVERSED???

In closing, and when taking some of the above factors into account, it is disgraceful that FNB dont shoulder the responsibility? FNB clearly have NO REGARD for their clients who I would assume, should be seen or treated as the bank's biggest assets!!!

Dear Mr Rahim Salamaan

FNB

Further to your response regarding my issue with FNB in which you state that we are deadlocked refers;

Deadlocked is the reason or excuse that FNB have used as it is in all likelihood a convenient way for FNB to get rid of the problem?

PLEASE ADDRESS the CORE issues IE the blatant disregard for better security measures at your facilities I.E. your Rink Street, PE ATM!! There is no doubt in my mind that this lack of security and proper control = a total disregard for your clients, has resulted in this particular venue becoming a hot bed for card swapping etc.

PLEASE ALSO ADDRESS AND ADVISE how the ******* were able to ransack my account WHEN I have a daily limit in place AND as such, can only draw a limited amount per day from an ATM? In addition to this, please also share your thoughts on why the *******, when running towards the shop where the 3 cash withdrawals were made on the 30th Jan, by passed 3 other ATM's and headed straight for an FNB ATM which is situated 40 to 50 meters further than the other 3 ATM's???

PLEASE ALSO ADDRESS AND ADVISE why the reserved payment of R7000-00 in favour of Jeya's Corner Tavern in New Brighton was never reversed?

PLEASE ALSO ADDRESS AND ADVISE why it took FNB 45 plus minutes to answer their telephone when I was trying to cancel my card????

PLEASE ALSO ADVISE AND ADDRESS why FNB will not give me a copy of the CCTV footage of the incident filmed at the Rink Street ATM??? It would appear that FNB have something to hide???

PLEASE ALSO ADVISE AND ADDRESS why, when taking the above into account, does FNB not shoulder the responsibility.
