“FNB DeductMy Husband’s Entire Salary After His Loan Was Settled

Extremely disappointed with FNB and how they have handled this situation.

My husband settled his FNB loan in full on 21 August, yet FNB still went ahead and deducted his entire salary for a loan that had already been settled.

When he contacted FNB, he was told that the money would only be refunded after 5 days. My question is: what is my family supposed to do in the meantime?

That is my husband's salary, and it is money we depend on to pay our bills, buy groceries and provide for our children. Taking someone's entire salary when the loan has already been settled is not a small inconvenience. It puts an entire family under unnecessary financial pressure.

How are we supposed to buy food and meet our basic needs for those five days? FNB may see this as a processing issue, but for us, this is our household income and our children's needs.

I am extremely disappointed with FNB's handling of this matter. A refund after five days does not solve the immediate problem created by deducting someone's entire salary incorrectly.

Customers' salaries are not spare money. They are used to keep households running. FNB needs to take the impact of these errors on customers and their families seriously.

FNB Changed Its Story After Taking My Salary

I am extremely disappointed with how FNB is handling my situation.

I settled my FNB loan on 21 August 2026 after following the settlement amount and instructions provided to me through the FNB App. After making the payment, the loan reflected R0.00, which gave me every reasonable indication that the account had been settled.

Then FNB proceeded to deduct my entire salary through a debit order.
When I contacted FNB, I was initially told that the reason for the deduction was because the debit order had already been scheduled and the system had processed it.
Now, however, FNB has changed the explanation and is saying that the amount I paid was “insufficient” and that I was apparently still owing on the loan.

This simply does not make sense. If I was still owing money, why did the App reflect R0.00 after I made the settlement payment? And why is the loan no longer reflecting on my App, with only the amount FNB says I owe now showing?
It feels as though FNB is now trying to shift the responsibility after deducting my entire salary.

I followed the settlement process as instructed. I expect FNB to provide a clear, transparent explanation supported by the actual settlement quote and transaction records—not change the explanation depending on who I speak to.
This is not just about money. That was my entire salary, and my family depends on it for food, transport and household expenses.

FNB needs to take accountability, investigate what happened, and refund the money that was incorrectly deducted.
I expect better from a financial institution of this size.

Customers should not have to fight this hard to get answers about their own money.
