FNB Deceased Estates

I have sent four e-mails to FNB Deceased Estates Division asking for a time line of when they expect to finalise my Mom’s Estate. All of them were received and three were read by the parties concerned. The only correspondence received was from a Samisha Bhartu on the 12th December who sent me a notification that they had received the revised letter of executorship and that they were now going to find out the value of the investments. The letter of executorship was issued on the 13th October 2022. No action taken for two months – not professional behaviour.

When I objected to my mother’s liquidation and distribution account as to why the investments were not disclosed and the incorrect calculation and treatment of the codicil, FNB were asked by me for a copy of my Late father’s estate which they had handled. I was told that they had disposed of the records and therefore there was nothing that they could do to follow up. Total disinterest shown by FNB to get hold of my fathers Liquidation and distribution account. This I considered to be totally unprofessional behaviour – FNB made the error of not transferring the investments to my mothers name when my father died and should have made the effort to correct the matter.

I managed to get a person in Pretoria who, for a fee of R800-00, managed to get me a copy of my Dad’s liquidation and distribution account, which I sent through to FNB deceased Estates Division on the 14th September 2022. The investments were found and had a market value of R1.7M which was notified to me on the 23rd of September 2022 by FNB. FNB said that my Dad’s estate had to be reopened and a letter of executorship was issued by the master on the 13TH October 2022.

I would have expected the cash value investments to be transferred into my Dad’s revised liquidation and distribution account in mid-October. The tax assessment to be updated, taxes due deducted and the balance paid to my Mom’s account in mid-December. My Mom’s liquidation and distribution accounts should be finalised around the end of January. Both estates have been advertised and deadlines for creditor claims has been comp**** with, it is just the 21 days that the accounts must lie for inspection at the Master’s office that will take the time. SARS tax assessments can be finalised in 10 working days If done correctly.

Please can someone have the courtesy to reply to my e-mail queries and why there are such delays in actioning the matters. Can you please supply me with a time line of when FNB expects each phase to be completed and when will the estate be finalised.
