FNB ***** Debit orders
@FNB I am extremely disappointed with how this matter has been handled by First National Bank. I reported *****ulent debit orders on my account from companies called Rewarranty and Debtwire, yet there has been little urgency or accountability in addressing the issue.
There has been no clear explanation as to how these debit orders were processed without an approved debit order mandate. As a customer, I trust my bank to safeguard my account and prevent unauthorized transactions, but in this case, that trust has been compromised—on my own account that is supposed to be secured under a world-renowned bank.
What is even more concerning is that I have been charged reversal fees for transactions that I did not authorize. For example, on 1 April, a *****ulent debit order of R120 was processed and I was then charged an additional R50 by FNB to reverse it. It is unacceptable that I, as the victim, am expected to carry the cost of reversing *****ulent activity on an account that should be properly safeguarded by the bank.
This is now the second time this has happened, involving more than six transactions. I have had to personally pay to reverse these charges, as if I had approved them myself. This creates the impression that customers are being penalized for failures in the bank’s control processes.
I will be taking this matter further, as I believe this situation reflects a serious gap in protecting customers from unauthorized debit orders.
I trusted FNB to keep my finances secure and this experience has significantly impacted that trust.
