FNB debit card *****: FNB takes forever to reverse a transaction I never authorised.

My debit card was used for a *****ulent transaction at Takealot in the morning of Friday 24th October. I immediately logged into my FNB banking app and blocked my debit card. I then phoned FNB ***** department to log a case and also dispute the transaction. A ***** case was logged and I was given a reference number. The shocking thing is that I was never sent a notification from my banking app to decline the transaction, I also never entered any OTP as I never made a purchase. How then was my account debited for an online purchase I never approved? I emailed Takealot a few minutes after FNB logged the ***** case to alert them about the *****ulent transaction; they rep**** later in the day stating that they will only liaise directly with FNB on the matter.

I called FNB ***** department again on Monday 27th October to get an update and I was informed that an email had been sent to Takealot to report the *****ulent transaction. Since I already reported the ***** case to SAPS, I opted to give FNB the SAPS case number but the consultant declined and said that the investigators will request for it if deemed necessary. The consultant further stated that cases like mine do not always require SAPS case number; this is a bit strange to hear or does FNB know something that we don’t? Just this morning, 28th October, the *****ulent Takealot transaction had moved from pending status to completed after disputing it almost 4 days ago. I was informed by FNB ***** department that the investigation would take between 6 and 30 days; this is extremely pathetic and annoyingly long to investigate a transaction that I never authorised. Unfortunately, I just can’t wait that long especially when I had notified FNB immediately the *****ulent transaction went off my account.

Just an update on the matter:
I received an outcome of the debit card ***** this morning 31st October that FNB will not refund the amount; the letter claims that I authorised the transaction, which I did not. As a matter of fact, it was my swift action to block my card via the app that prevented further *****ulent transactions as they were declined.
Here are the facts:
I specifically informed the consultant who logged my case that “I DID NOT APPROVE” any transaction. And that was exactly why I called the bank to report the incident immediately I received an SMS notification that my account was debited. I am shocked to see this kind of outcome from FNB.
The unanswered questions are
  1. Why did the transaction move from “PENDING” to “COMPLETED” when I had reported it as a *****ulent transaction? Why didn’t FNB reverse the transaction?
  2. Who ordered on Takealot? -Takealot should provide the identity of whoever collected or ordered the item - After all there is an order number and a paper trail. Why did Takealot process the order even though they were alerted early? These are the kind of questions you would expect FNB to ask Takealot but it seems like FNB is happy to sweep the issue under the carpet.
Again, I DID NOT APPROVE THE TRANSACTION and I DID NOT ORDER ANYTHING FROM TAKEALOT. FNB should reverse the full amount. The SAPS case number is Case no: CAS541/10/2025.
