FNB Credit Card Department Fail

I have been trying to cancel my credit card for 2 weeks now. I made payment into the card and asked that it be closed. I have emailed RB Jacobs numerous times only to be told "Sorry it will be attended to." Now I get told that you can't close the account if you don't cancel any linked debits to it. The only linked debit relates to a debt protection plan which was sold to me when I got the card, why would it be such a difficult thing to get rid of now and how come the consultant just said to me that "we have sent through your request"? Sent through to who?

I am truly sick and tired now. I have wasted enough airtime on this, have been hung up on and generally gotten zero assistance. How come I'm being treated like this after banking with FNB for 10 years now? Totally unacceptable! FIX IT!
