FNB CONnect Sim card woes

I purchased a television a few months back through FnB Connect and was pleased with thier prompt delivery and good service. With the T.V. I recieved a Fnb Connect Sim card (Which I had not asked for) with instructions on how to 'port' my number to it, my cell number i have had for over ten years now and I was reluctant to do anything to risk losing it so I tossed the card in the cupboard and let it collect dust.

Three days ago I was contacted by Fnb Connect asking if I was using my simcard, to which i rep**** no and explained that I did not want to change my number, the consultant told me that I could port my current cell number to the new sim card and that it would be simple and quick. So I thouhgt what the heck let me give it a go and ported my card on Friday 22/07/16.

That has been one of the biggest mistakes of my life. Not only did the port only go through at 22:30 Saturday night, as I write this on the Sunday I am left unable to load any airtime or data on my phone, I am unable to make calls, and cannot even use the Contact Us no. (147). Any attempt to call the customer care center (only operating between 8:00 and 13:00) is met with a waiting time of at least twenty minutes if you don't give up, oh and you bet it isn't toll free, and not to mention the fact that Fnb connect uses SA's worst carrier, Cell C!

So here I sit. With a cell number I have had almost literally my entire adult life which I can no longer use, and with no option to contact them to fix it without bieng fired from my work (Company doesn't allow personal calls) and I work in the next town over so I can't phone them from my house phone.

Long story short, if you are thinking of porting or using fnb connect, take a breath, and rather jump in front of a moving bus, it will be quicker and less painful. And to everyone working at FNB, and Fnb connect, **** you guys.

Reviewer Update

We are now 6 months after I gave my initial complaint, and to be fair they did contact me and eventually get the card ported properly. I have also since learned in the interim that the Cell-C coverage in the area is abysmal which is what led to my connectivity issues (A major factor in my rating upgrade).

I gave Fnb a fair trial and ran with them for 6 months but due to the constant signal drops and inability to use the data service (My phone hasn't run on 3g for the entire time) I decided to port back to Vodacom, which was thankfully quick and painless.

Now that my temper has cooled somewhat I still feel the need to urge people to steer away from Fnb as a service provider if not alltogether then at least if you have poor Cell C coverage in your area.
